Ummm, so he's quiting a HEC finalist and his chances to play for the current Grand Slam winners to come to us?... wow, I can't say you're playing safe here. So you must be on a wind up.

Thank God.

Good player no doubt, but after hooker and blindside, I'd say centre would be our lowest priority.

From the Leinster website also stating he's there til 2010

The Irish Rugby Football Union and Leinster Rugby are happy to announce that Gordon D'Arcy has committed his immediate future by agreeing terms for a three year extension of his current contract.

Commenting on the news, IRFU Chief Executive Philip Browne said: "This is another important contract secured by the IRFU and Leinster Rugby and is part of the IRFU's long stated policy of keeping our leading players in Ireland

"Gordon is an integral part of both the Leinster and Ireland teams and we are delighted that he has followed both Brian O'Driscoll and Ronan O'Gara by agreeing a new contract to remain with his province.

"His decision is another endorsement of the structures in place that are designed to keep our leading players with their provinces and ensure that they are available for the Ireland team"

Be better spending money on a number 10 or lock.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, you really have a source. There exists the possibilities that:

1. you're source is wrong and / or insane

2. is simply feeding you ever more ludicrous suggestions just to see if you'll post them on here.

If true, and we've splashed the cash for him, I will be gutted. I'm not interested that he's a big name or even a class player. We know what we need and it's up front and at the back.

But even as I type this my brain says this is b0ll0x. They wouldn't release him from his contract (they are worth the paper they are written on by the way Alun), we couldn't afford to buy him out of it, he wouldn't want to come (why would he?), we already have options in the centre and we have serious shortcomings elsewhere in the team that urgently need addressing.

IMO he'd be a waste of money

scarletdwyrain, they would put word about that there is going to be an announcement at the ulster game ,it's a 7-30 p.m. kick off on a saturday night the end of another rubbish season nobody much wants to go and see it so why not chuck a little groundbait out and get a few of the ones that believe anything they say to turn up,2005 gallaghers we are signing a big name shortly, huw evans on scrum v we are signing not one but 4 internationals in 2 weeks which was 2 1/2 weeks ago,the silence is deafening.

Ladram, because the announcements haven't come yet and they are announcing price decreases apparently, do you now think the best time to announce signings would be at the Ulster game and make a big thing of it?

if we really had 4 BIG signings to come don't you think with the current apathy and mistrust of most fans that maybe announcing 1 a week saving the biggest until the ulster game that would show intent and lift spirits, what happens if they don't announce them at the ulster game that would mean people would go away even more pissed off than ever and maybe just maybe not return, are they really prepared to take that gamble.

Yeah maybe, I just feel if the management put out an email/post on here, something in the media that basically states 'The Scarlets are going to announce X number of players as well as the season ticket prices for next season so come down to Parc Y Scarlets for the Ulster game, tickets are only £10' or something like that, it might create a buzz and we might get a few more bums on seat for a very important last game for us.

Does that make sense?

"We're firming up the look of the squad for next season with plenty for supporters to look forward to. Our future is all about responsible decisions on the playing side and cementing a balanced squad that can perform well in Europe.

"To do that, we've made it a priority to strengthen key areas of our group with quality players. Adding Rhys [Thomas] to our line-up, is a good example of that."

Going by this, Braid should be kept and new second rows brought in as that, i would say, is a key area for next season. I wouldn't say centre was a key area when we have 3 centres of sufficient quality to compete in the Heineken Cup.

D'arcy is an excellent player and very versatile too. He's a world class 12 and 13, and a very good 15 too. I've also seen him fill in well on the wing.

Scarlets fans are at an all time low ebb I would say. Anybody who comes on here with ridiculous rumours should be shot. If someone has credible gen then fair enough, but why on earth would D'arcy want to come to us? and where on earth would we find the money to fund it when were itching to pull out of the Braid deal because we cant afford him?

Agree Tim, contributors to this Forum are frustrated with the amount of rumours that have been discuussed, I want FACTS not bullsh#t. i just as well start a rumour that Eddie O'Sullivan has signed a 5 year contract with the Scarlets, another load of bullsh#t. or was it another Eddie from OZ, I'm confused.

Genuine question: do you realise how ludicrous it would be for D'Arcy to leave Ireland and come to us? Do you think we could afford him? Given that we have King and JD do you think we'd want to spend a massive amount of money on a player like D'Arcy?

Has it even crossed your mind that your source is having you on?

Come on, this is clearly a wind-up. It would benefit absoultely no-one.

In fairness there is not a lot of abuse being directed at you, just a large amount of disbelief in what you are saying.

I for one am prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt (I fully expect you to crash and burn - and the second any one of your 'predictions' fails I wouldn't bother posting on here again.) BUT

If all of your predictions are true, then Clap

So now we are saying we don't WANT to sign quality players?

If he came with Braid would we be as pi**ed off?

How about D'arcy with a quality 2nd row?

It may be bu**sh*t but its certainly not a poor signing if true!

It would be a terrible signing, in that we'd have spent £200k+ on a position where we have quality first choice players. When we have massive holes in other positions.

No chance Braid or D'Arcy are coming.

It's not a case of not wanting to sign quality players, it's just within our current squad there are far far greater needs.

As I said earlier, centre should be very low on our list of priorities this offseason.  The only positions we are better off is probably hooker and blindside flanker and depending on your opinion of Priestland, OH.

nah the irish don't tend to want to leave their provinces easily and who the hell would leave dublin and move to the llanelli area? temple bar and all those lovely irish ladies sure beat a pint in the turnstile and the mingers in llanelli.

Not saying that at all - but we need quality players in positions where we need, well, quality players. We could have 10 international standard centres, but still, whats the point?

Same goes here - we don't need a D'arcy. In context it would be a poor signing as centre is a position we have ample cover for.

Are you serious? not only would this be amazing that he would want to come but it would also be very stupid of us to have signed him. We need players in other positions.
So on both counts this has to be c**p

I wouldn't say he'd be a terrible signing. D'arcy can play 11,12,13,14,15 to a very high standard. I agree that we need a lock and flanker more than a centre, but D'arcy would add a lot to our squad.

This story is total BS. Sorry Al, but why would someone who has just won a grand slam and is in the final of the HC come to us?? Plus we would no be able to aford him anway unless our millionaire on the board of directors put their money where their mouth is.

Perhaps D'arcy wants to work with Nigel, that's it, he's struggling with form after injury, missed out on a Lions tour, so he's come to the great centre coach 'Guru Nige'. Makes perfect sense now.
