Wales lost comfortably to Argentina in their last game of the Junior RWC, but that boy Ryan Conbeer scores another beauty. He's going to be a good one.

Baldwin is very tidy at centre and certainly the hotter prospect of he and Nicholas at present imo.

Long term maybe but Ioan Nicholas was easily Wales' best back in the Junior World Cup

Conbeer right now conceeds far more than he scores. Which is a shame as he is electric in attack. He makes the same defensive mistake everytime i see him play, overshooting falling for the show, then gets the ball passed behind his back for his oppo wing to be free.

He did it twice against Edinburgh. Frustrating. I hope someone is highlighting it and working with him on it.

Plenty of backs coming thro, we need some grizzlies tho.

Conbeer needs at least another year with the u23s to realise his true potential. Look at what's happened to Keelan Giles for example- put into International Rugby at a very young age, lots of hype, and he's had a terrible season plagued with injuries this year.

Welsh rugby has a history of "next superstar" back 3 players who get hyped up much too young and then struggle that's similar to the England football team.. Prydie, Daf Howells, Jordan Williams..

Will they not play in the u23 league too?

Certainly not in the games I’ve seen. Nicholas looks lively, but ultimately mostly fails to evade the first tackle and gets isolated far too often even at this level. Baldwin has looked far more elusive, even when he’s been out of position on the wing. I assume Baldwin is a year younger?

I think these lads will be better prepared because its much more difficult to win and keep the shirt in the current squad. such is the level of quality.

Years ago one decent break and they were our saviour until injury or a bigger side took them. We can properly wean these guys into the 1st now.

Congratulations to Wales on beating Italy 34-17 to secure 7th place at the U20 World Cup:

Dan Davis showed up well with a try and a break down the wing with an inside pass to create another for Llewellyn.

Ryan Conbeer also scored... both Ryan and Dan's tries involved 3 yard dashes with a bit of elusiveness and strength to evade and fend off tackles - not the most spectacular tries ever, but they got the job done!

Agreed which is why I think this u23 team will be great. Hope they work on the respective parts of their games and learn from the likes of Foxy, Parkes, Jonny, Leigh, Steff etc when training with the first teams.

Comparing Wales U20 with those of the winners, France and runners up England, the difference in size and power of the packs was huge. I suppose it's mainly down to the numbers playing the game. The more big, powerful forwards that you have playing the more likely you are to have these types of players in the narrow age range available for selection.
When selection for the full side happens, of course, you can pick anyone from 17 to 40 and the odds against us lessen as we can pick any big powerful forward in that range. In fact it probably becomes easier as you don't have so many rivals to choose from and the players can develop and get to know each others strengths and weaknesses better.

England are huge throughout the age groups. Nurtured from an early age, best schools, best sports science, best diets, best 'chemistry'. Lots of big players to select from. Why choose a good small player when you can choose an equally good big player. I suspect it's similar in France.

The French scrum had the English boys on toast. The TH Bamba is going to be some player. Also the no 8 Joseph is still apparently only 17!!!!!
