The jammy dodgers have somehow landed with a draw where all they have to do is beat Tunisia and panama lose to Belgium, now its Colombia, beat them and its probably Sweden , then probably Spain or Russia, then its the world cup final?

The are avoiding all the best teams until the final, France, Brazil, Uruguay, Belgium...All 4 are better teams than England imo....Ze Germans , Argentina, Portugal all out

So just to beat Colombia, probably Sweden and Spain then just 1 match against 1 of the big 4 and they lift the jules rimmet trophy? Spain are class but not what they were, Sweden solid unspectacular

For what its worth I dont think they will do it, but darn it what a draw, what an opportunity?Shocked

Likely quarters

match 1 confirmed

Uruguay
    V
France

Brazil
   V
Belgium

Spain/Russia
   V
Croatia

Sweden
     V
England

From what I’ve seen of this World Cup there is no best team.

you may be right, yet another massive shock with the ruskies knocking off the spaniards. I still think the cream will rise to the top though in the end though and see englands draw as a great opportunity for them

Isn't the Jules Rimet trophy the previous one that was stolen in Brazil and never found?

I wonder if they felt the same when they faced 'only' Iceland in the Euros LOLLOLLOL

Hell of a chance for Engerland to progress but are they good enough??? Croatia should be licking their lips as well and they're a good side. The other side of the draw has the clear favourites.

The 4 best teams brazil uruguay belgium and france all in one half , very strange
Brazil coasted past the mexicans in 95 degree heat, ominous sign for other sides

Think I need to move back to Wales pronto.... England are looking pretty good.

In fairness to them, they're playing very well, have a likeable playing style and manager. In this crazy world cup who knows what will happen?

Well, we now know - England went as far as they could, but their limited skills were shown up v Croatia - they seemed incapable of making progress by passing to each other, preferring to pass back to the goalie to hammer it downfield - Sam Allardyce would have been proud of their methods!

Certainly, though, a far more likeable group under Southgate than we've seen in recent years.

In the meantime - allez les Bleus!

Yes Aber I lost count of how many times they passed back instead of forward. Pretty boring stuff really. They did well to get that far & certainly seem a far happier & down to earth group than previous regimes. They badly missed a player capable of playing the killer pass in the middle like Modric, Griezmann.

A better group of players and a nice guy manager but let's not give them too much they couldn't beat Belgium something even tiny old wales managed 2 years ago.

Very young team. They have a great future over the next few years and Southgate seems a revelation in decency to be fair. My daughter who works in London was watching the game in a pub in Clapham and told me that after the game there were fights breaking out all over the place both inside and outside -apparently amongst England supporters. Why on earth I ask myself? I guess its drink and the heat and the huge disappointment. It lets their country down though and their team who did so well.

And therein lies the problem always England fans acting like utter [beep]s! It ain't all football fans look back two years with wales and the praise our fans had for their behaviour and they sung louder than anything I've heard even with small numbers.

Unlucky for England they met a good side but overall should be regarded as a very successful tournament for them. I don't remember *quite* so many stories about Wales 2 years ago but then I'm just some bitter Welshman, naturally.

England did very well in the first half and I was sure they would get a second goal to go through. Didn't watch the rest but I gather Croatia were far better and England had little to offer and didn't adapt to Croatia's changes. I think their direct game and set pieces causes problems but they badly miss creative central midfielders with passing, dribbling and game control skills, which all the top club or national sides have. Just look at the Premier League and this sort of player has been brought in from abroad in so many of the top sides for so long now; English (or British) players of this type just aren't being developed.

Age old problem which will continue as long as Sky keep pumping silly money into the game. Money has ruined a good game in my opinion with many involved completely out of touch will fans & reality. On a smaller scale the French Top 14 is suffering a similar fate - the International side struggle. They are trying to change that situation now so hopefully the very promising World champion under 20's lads will be able to fulfil their undoubted potential.

as I said originally the draw was unreal, it offered england a chance to coast the final , but even croatia were way better ....When the smoke clears yes they did well, semi final , but there was only 1 good performance when they beat sweden 2-0
to actually win a major they will need to find a gazza or a bale or a giggs or a dalglish....creative geniuses whop can create or score out of nothing...croatia had such players, so did brazil, argentina, portugal, uruguay, spain, italy had it with pirlo at the last world cup...why cant england produce a visionary midfielder who can dribble and produce killer passes?

Not that young a team, average age of starting eleven was 25+ the youngest 22 and the oldest 33!. Some of this " young team" will be past it by the time of the next world cup.

Lets face it they have done well. But everything is relative. They have exceeded very low expectations and have a much improved public image ( not difficult when you think of previous regimes). So Southgate deserves credit. From where they are to winning something is a very long way.
