I well know how many budding Welsh coaches are lurking on this forum so here is your chance. Pick your team, not the one you think Wayne will go for.

15. Halfpenny 14. Rees-Zammit 13. Tompkins 12. Owen Williams 11. Adams 10. Biggar 9. Cawdor
1. Wyn 2. Ken 3. WGJ 4. Jake 5. AWJ 6. Shingler 7. Navidi 8. Faletau

16. Dee 17. Rob 18. Brown 19. Rowlands 20. Wainwright 21. Tomos 22. Evans 23. Jonny.

this is what I would pick not what I think pivac will pick

halfpenny LRZ Tompkins o Williams adams biggar t Williams

wyn  ken wgj hill awj wainwright navidi toby f

bench

rob dee brown ball moriarty tupric g davies  mcnicholl

6 2 split on bench a la boks and their bomb squad  , Williams covers 10 and tips can cover centre

I like lewis as an impact prop but may as well see how far brown has actually developed this season and Italy home is the best option for this

Just pass it to luke Morgan and he’s certain to score as he’s soo fast ,rest of the team can rest then as they won’t be able to keep up with him for support anyway.

Brilliant? Christ, you've got a low bar for brilliance, boys.

No point picking my own team. Much more interested in who Wayne will pick as that's the reality.

This is what I think we might see given what we know about his coaching methods and attacking style:

1. Wyn Jones 2. Ken Owens 3. WGJ/Dillon Lewis
4. Cory Hill 5. AWJ
6. Shingler 8. Faletau 7. Tipuric

9. Tomos Williams
10. Jarrod Evans
11. Josh Adams 12. Parkes 13. North 14. LRZ
15. Halfpenny

16. Dee
17. Rob Evans
18. WGJ/Brown/Lewis
19. Ball
20. Navidi
21. Cawdor
22. Biggar
23. JMac

There will be a new cap or two but Pivac will go with a side based on the previous regime. He can't afford for it to go wrong immediately. Over the six nations and even the tour to NZ, there will be a scattering of new caps and it is over next winter that the change will gather pace.

Don't often do team predictions, but here goes...

Halfpenny
LR-Z
North
Watkin
Adams
Jarrod Evans
Tomos Williams
Rob Evs
Elliott Dee
WGJ
AWJ
Rowlands
Wainwright
Navidi
Faletau

Reps: Ken, Wyn Jones, Brown, Cory Hill, Tipuric, Cawdor, Owen Wills, McNicholl

If we're going to blood the new players, it might as well be at home against Italy. Plenty of experience on the bench in case the cavalry is needed, and to get them dialled in ahead of Week 2.

How has Faletau played since his return? He's been out so long I wouldn't be surprised if he is somewhat off the pace. That said we have no-one else in that mould available. So even a part fit Faletau starts.

Faletau for me is the only other current player who has AWJ's status - if available he plays.

Id have faletau on the bench with wainwright 8 tipuric 7 navidi 6

FWIW, Stevo says that of players actually in the squad (NOT counting those already not selected because of injury, e.g. Sanjay), only Elliot Dee is currently injured - though others recovering may be a bit 'short':

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/51277656" rel="nofollow - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/51277656

I'd go with:

15 Halfpenny
14 Adams
13 Tompkins
12 Parkes
11 Rees-Zammit
10 Biggar
9 Cawdor

8 Faletau (played very well on his return, apparently)
7 Tipuric
6 Shingler
5 Ball
4 AWJ
3 WillGriff John
2 Ken O
1 Wyn Jones

Subs: Elias, Rob Evans, Dillon Lewis, Wainwright, Navidi, Tomos Williams, Jarrod Evans, North

Maybe it'd be a gamble not having a second row on the bench, but Shingler could move up - Faletau must start, but may need to be replaced after a long period out.

I'd like to give Tompkins and Rees-Zammit a chance to show what they can do v Italy - we should be able to experiment a little and still win (famous last words? I hope not...).

Faletau is one of the best players in the world full stop and more importantly he’s a proper 8. I think he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet

I agree-a fantastic rugby footballer-world class. In some ways, though,I feel sometimes I'd rather see him play at 6.Not possible for Wales but a no.8 like Vunipola would take care of the hard yards and allow him more scope to show his talents and get wider more often. If both remain injury free would they pack down together for the Lions?Love to see it.

I'd say there's a fairly decent chance that will happen if both are fit for the Lions.

Probably a big 'if' - whereas Faletau has been fairly injury-free until his recent long lay-off, Billy V has an unfortunate history of injuries, especially forearm fractures.

Faletau is world class, maybe the best.Hes a sensational rugby player and Im ecstatic hes back. I am merely concerned with his very lengthy lay offs from test rugby and all rugby. It may be too much too soon. I saw him make a comeback for Bath many months ago after another long lay off, he had a storming game, but then broke his arm and was off another long time.
But the coaches will see him up close and Im sure theyll make the right call.

Faletau for me is a different level to any other European No 8. Vunipola's injuries have taken their toll and he is not as explosive as he used to be. As for the Lions back row - wow what a choice. I think Faletau's biggest challenger for the No 8 shirt will be this lad Caelon Doris from Leinster - he is a hell of a player. In him & Ryan at 23 Ireland have two superb back 5 players going forward.

Good call - I've been very impressed by him, so far.

Yes he is highly rated as well but he has been overtaken at 8 for Leinster & now Ireland so this boy must be an absolute handful. Leinster's pool of no 8's is ridiculous - Jack Conan, Doris & Max Deegan. Thats 3 International quality players in the one position. Even we would struggle to match that - though Casseim, Blade & McLoud is none too shabby.

Not too worried about Saturday but he will be needed against Ireland. With so many riches in some positions I hope to see Pivac taking more of a horses for courses view to selection. For instance against Italy I would use Aaron to put pressure on their lineout & secure our own ball; Tipuric's skills in the wide channels will be useful. Against Ireland I would want to use Navidi's better breakdown skills with maybe some more grunt at 6 with Moriarty or Wainwright.
