We're playing the Dragons on Friday lunchtime at Dave Parade.

ETA Obviously the game is being played behind closed doors but both sides are hoping to stream the match.

Can see the sense for both sides really. Internationals away so need for back up lads to play. Chance for us to see Costellow playing alongside Osian at 12 with Tyler at 13 1st half then AOB with Asquith and Joe Roberts maybe. Also chance to experiment with young locks and try out a back row of Jac, Dan Davies and Casseim with Casseim doing lineout duties.

Dominant first half , maybe more points to score but not bad for the Moment..
Good see Rob back in action. Tex if finds more continuity, he il be in starting team soon. Sebastian needs to improve his grounding after contract
O Brein give flair to the action...now I m so curious to see all the youngsters on the bench

Costellow has to get some minutes in the pro 12. Boy is class. Hell of an appetite for defensive duties for a 10 and full of inventiveness in attack. Prydie very safe at FB & took good options. Great to see our young backs having a go. 1st half Asquith made some good busts and offloads. As many have said before me he has been vastly underused.

Will Homer made a good impact off the bench too.

Posted By: PE SA
Date Posted: 16 October 2020 at 1:53pm
The young locks went well, Marc Jones showed up well, Jac Morgan, Angus and Prydie all went well.Aled Brew looked busy and was strong in contact.

Homer, Mathias, Kruger, Dan Davis, Costellow all had  very good impact from the bench in my opinion.

Posted By: EJPT
Date Posted: 16 October 2020 at 1:53pm
Yeah i think Will Homer showed good vision. For me the backs available for our next game should look like this
9. Homer
10. Angus
11. Steff Evans
12. Asquith
13. Morgan
14. Brew
15. Prydie

Homer is sharp, thought Prydie had good game, Marc Jones and OBrien good, lets see more of Costello, lets hope these can secure some PRO14 wins

Selection at 10 is going to be very interesting. O'brien and Costellow look good, however I do feel it would be harsh on Dan if he was omitted from the matchday squad. Whilst he hasn't set the world alight in recent games he hasn't done much wrong either

Against Benneton I'd start AOB & have Costellow on the bench as we know what Dan can do.

Agreed, scarletnut.A quick wing would have scored off the lineout 1st half in the build up to Sebastien's try..Good move and the gap was there but Brew didn't have the legs.

Brew has always been fast hasn't he? proably not had much  pre season training so I assume once he gets upto full fitness he will get quicker?

A good run for the boys, and minutes on the legs for all the boys involved in the next weeks.
Cassiem is ready to start, Homer confirmed  me the good impression, Costellow needs an occasion but he has to dimostrate hardly wants it, cause O Brien showed good rugby.
Prydie was the surprise of the day at fullback, even if it was an easy day in defence for him.
Line outs remain a little problem, but have time to work in it.

Yes he's lost some of that pace. Conbeer would have been over from that move in my opinion. Our back 3 choices for Benetton, with Prydie really putting his hand up for a FB start today, should be Prydie at FB, Steff on one wing & Conbeer or Tom Rogers on the other. I would start either AOB or Costellow in Benetton unless a deluge is forecast. If top of the ground running conditions play both in the 23. Homer will push very hard for the starting jersey after today.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed that. A great way to spend Friday lunchtime. Is there a way for the regions to make a few bob from streaming these games or does it cost them? I'd love to see a few more as the season moves forward - great to see the rest of the squad get some games.

they could have had money from ospreys game but ospreys said no. Odd in these times.

Streaming it wouldn't have cost anything. Just starting a live feed. Could have received income from a sponsor perhaps.

Not enough being said about the kids on show for the scarlets. Everything pretty much with the difference in budgets and the amount of "first teamers" involved with Scarlets.

Mathias, OConnor, Rees, Price, Morgan, Miles, Tuipolotu, Blacker, Homer, Costellow, Roberts all waiting to get a debut or first start. Even Rogers can be chucked into that list.

Encouraging from the Scarlets kids. Each of them gave the coaches something to think about.

Haven’t seen the game yet but it seems encouraging from the posts on here. Clearly no need to get especially excited as it was only an A team game against a Dragons squad that lacks strength in depth. The misfiring at the lineout is beginning to worry me, let’s hope that the coaching team will have a solution by next week. Otherwise a similar performance and result in Treviso next week is the most important thing that can come out of this game.

I was thinking about games just like this one - teams made up of players just below the radar who never seem to get much rugby (granted there were quite a few first team players on show today). Not sure how feasible that is.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed that. A great way to spend Friday lunchtime. Is there a way for the regions to make a few bob from streaming these games or does it cost them? I'd love to see a few more as the season moves forward - great to see the rest of the squad get some games.
How was the 1400 Zoom meeting?
Went quite well thanks Steve. I kept my bottle of Stella just below the desk though. Smile

Looks a good value addition fixture.

Brew pace is interesting. In the 2011 RWC squad he, Scott, Halfpenny and North were the paciest. Time catches up with everyone I guess.

Although on the meet the coaches Crys event they did say Brew has only been in training for 10 days.

So he might be blowing a few cobwebs off the hammies there, much like myself when in my pomp. Took me a few weeks to be back to 'rapid'.

Boy, when I think back if I could have only harnessed that pace with basic ability, a rugby brain, directional sense, a restrained response to being tackled and a gaping shortfall in my kicking and passing game, I'd have made it I tell ya.

We see a Carwyn Tuipolotu stepping off the bus before a game and I can just hear my old Uni coach saying to me and the other back rowers...'right lads, remember now... always go low ok?'
...and all of us thinking, oh aye, no problem, right in to the spokes...you must be joking ..no chance bud...

Guy looks a right specimen.

More positives than negatives. Some sharpness shown by the backs at last. That should build some confidence in the squad. An enjoyable affair for Scarlets fans, not so much for the Dragons but well done both clubs for getting it streamed.

Good workout and a lot of positives. It was nice to us looking to play the Scarlets way , with pace and tempo and players suited to that style .

 Only in a sporting setting.

Btw, any comparison between Louis Carbonel, the small, young, 10 for Toulon and Sam Costelow?

Deft feet, good kicking, small in stature but courageous in defence.

I was thinking that during that first half , very similar in style and stature .

It was nice to see that the introduction of Homer and Costelow, in particular, really livened up our back play, and presented the Dragons with new problems that they hadn't been coached to prevent. This is not to take away from all the other young players who made positive contributions in the limited time they had on the pitch. Same goes for Prydie (who I'm afraid to admit that I'd almost forgotten about) Rob,Sebastian and Brew.
The only real negatives were our still sub-standard lineout and our "ability" to lose possession in good attacking positions through minor infringements and fumbles.
Today, for once, we actually seemed to gain more from the ref's decisions.
Oh, If only we'd had even a zero gain impact from Murphy and his
assistants" on the weekend.
Still there's no use crying over spilt beer so let's just make sure we give them less excuse for penalising us in future.
