Scarlets don’t return to training until Thursday after their 2 week isolation.
1 day prep for our first EC game 🤦‍♂️

If they have been isolating within the welsh camp then why do they need to extend this to return to the scarlets squad? Surely players like Samson and ball would have left camp earlier having not been involved this weekend?

It would be a joke to see all the welsh regions hit the first round of Europe minus their internationals! And other national teams seem to operate a completely different system!

Wasn't there Covid in the Scarlets squad before the Leinster match?

It’s the full Scarlets squad who don’t return until Thursday from their isolation not the welsh squad members.

Apologies. My mistake.

Not ideal at all then.

How they’re going to prepare and reintegrate the welsh internationals in 1 training session and a captains run is one massive task.
Even so, I think we can go there and get a result 🙏

Coaches will have some selection headaches, even with a couple of knocks there is plenty to chose from.

Back 3, centre, second row and back row....

Some internationals go back in, others Id bring off bench perhaps

Big ask after 1 training session and a captains run, although I think if we go with the majority of the pack that’s been playing we’ve got enough cohesion building to take them on upfront. Jack Morgan is going to have to be at his best to keep Faletau quiet

Not sure if Rhys Priestland will be playing. He went off after 9 mins yesterday. Anyone have an update on his injury ?

Not ideal preparation, but the highlight of the season for me ,the first weekend of the  European season .

I have watched Bath last two weeks there pack is there strength, we need  to pickaa big pack. They lost Priestland and Matevesi to HIAs yesterday.

I suspect we wont have Sanjay. Bledd probably not either, but fingers crossed there. Bath having played recently are favourites. BUT we should be able to put out a strong side and I fancy our chances far more now than I did in October. Line out will have to be far better than it has been though. If we can sort that out we CAN win this one.

Heck of a trip missed, the atmosphere we created in Bath last time was phenomenal.

Had to get BT Sport, couldnt miss this game.

I was able to renegotiate my sky deal to incorporate BT Sport. Ended up just paying £2.70 more a month. I was more than happy with that. There was a Wowcher deal a week ago for £12.99 which was half price I think. When I checked that today, that particular offer had gone, but have a look at that Nige, they may have new offers on.

Blimey that's not going to help , and we were just starting to play well too plus getting some players back from Wales as well.
Still have to look forward to it positively , if we play anything like we did there last time that will be enough.

Dragons look like the best Welsh Region at the moment, Dean Ryan looks as though he's making a big difference. Good back row and tasty set of backs.

All being well I expect to see Griffiths & Basham involved in the 6 nations.

I think careful integration of our internationals will be needed here. Rob is playing well so perhaps have Wyn on the bench. Elias should be fresh to go straight in & Samson to start. Jake should partner Price with Blade, Morgan & Kalamafoni in the back row.

Haven't seen the forecast yet but with Davies or Hardy at 9 with Dan at 10, wingers depend on Sanjay & McNicholl's fitness but Evans & Conbeer will do a good job. Centres should be Asquith & Morgan though I think Hughes will be picked there & Halfpenny at 15.

Considering the current state of injuries I imagine that we will be missing Johnny Williams & Liam for sure. Unsure of the situation with Josh McLoud, Rhys Patchell & Johnny McNichol. Assuming these 3 are ready to go I would select :-

15. Halfpenny  14. Johnny 13. Foxy 12. Asquith 11. Steff 10. Rhys 9. Cawdor
1. Rob 2. Taylor 3. Samson 4. Jake 5. Morgan Jones 6. Blade 7. Jac 8. Sione

16. Ryan 17. Wyn 18. Javan 19. Tex 20. Josh/Kennedy 21. Hardy 22. Dan 23. Tyler.

Someone mentioned that Bath's strength is up front but they are no mugs behind with Rhys, Ben Spencer, Joseph, Watson, Cokaganisa, McConnachie. We are going to have to go some to win this with the disruptions faced.

Agree careful integration of our internationals will be needed, alongside a couple of injuries, is JMac and Rhys fit? Where are we with Josh & Sam?

Something like this for Bath please:-

15. Halfpenny  14. Conbeer 13. Foxy 12. Asquith 11. Steff 10. Dan 9. Gareth
1. Rob 2. Taylor 3. Samson 4. Jake 5. Jones 6. Blade 7. Jac 8. Sione

16. Elias 17 Jones 18 Scholtz 19 Tex 20 Josh 21 Hardy 22 Rhys 23 Hughes

A lot of tight selection calls for the coaches this week. If there are any toss ups between internationals and players who played against Connaught and Ulster I hope that the coaching staff go with the players who’ve been with the squad to try to get continuity and chemistry, especially with the disrupted build up. We can certainly beat Bath but it will be an incredibly hard game. Let’s hope for some dry weather and a fair and consistent ref.

You can get it for £25 for a monthly pass and watch on smart TVs or cast it. Two people can use one log in so you could go on halfers with someone. Other ways are if you have mobile with BT or EE you may be eligible for it. Again you can share the log in.

Scarlets will be without injured Liam Williams, Johnny Williams, James Davies and Rhys Patchell for Saturday's European Champions Cup match at Bath.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/55230330" rel="nofollow - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/55230330

On the other hand, "McNicholl left the field with a rib injury during Wales' 18-0 win over Georgia on 21 November but is in contention to face Bath, while back-row Josh Macleod - originally picked for Wales' Autumn squad but withdrawn due to a hamstring injury - is also back and available."

So, the team may look something like this:

15 Halfpenny; 14 McNicholl; 13 Foxy; 12 Steff H 11 Steff E 10 Dan Jones 9 Cawdor 8 Kalamafoni 7 Jac Morgan 6 Blade 5 Ball 4 Lousi 3 Samson 2 Elias 1 Wyn Jones

subs: Taylor Davies, Rob Evans, Werner K, Morgan Jones, Kennedy, Hardy, O'Brien, Asquith.

Assumes all fit and none banned. Quite a few close calls - at 4, 6, 10 and 12 for example, and on the bench.

When Mcloud was injured it would’ve been unthinkable for him not to return straight to the team once fit. The fact that it seems unlikely he’ll be in the starting XV this weekend is testament to Jac Morgan’s unbelievable performances.

Selection will be interesting for the weekend, particularly in the back row I feel.  Depends how Delaney wants to go, could go for bulk or could go for athleticism.

Not seen Bath play much this season, but I can see us lining up something like this:

15 Halfpenny
14 Conbeer
13 Foxy
12 Asquith
11 Steff E
10 Dinky
9 Cawdor
8 Kalamafoni
7 Macleod
6 Thomson
5 Ratuva
4 Ball
3 Lee
2 Elias
1 Jones

16 Davies
17 Evans
18 Kruger
19 Lousi
20 Morgan
21 Hardy
22 Costellow
23 McNicholl

It would be a big risk to play him after so many weeks  out, but he may make the 23... he'd definitely be in the mix, if match fit.

He took a hell of a bang to the head and was groggy walking off, he obviously failed the HIA as he didn't come back.  Not sure if they'll rush him back in a week but Matavesi also went off in the first half so they were 2 10's down for the rest of the game.

It's going to be an interesting selection , saw a quote from Glen Delaney saying that they have only been working with 20 players so whether that will influence selection and who those 20 are I don't know.
We will miss Liam and Johnny Williams but even without Johnny that leaves us 4 centres - Steff H , Asquith , Tyler Morgan and Jon Davies and everyone seems to have their own thoughts on this?
I personally don't think either Patchell or James Davies have been playing enough to justify selection anyway and we are well covered in those positions .
Looking forward to seeing the selection and to the game at the weekend.

I thought Foxy had his best game for ages last Sat how about trying him inside Tyler as a pairing.

Agreed there EJPT, winger in form at the moment. Maybe have him & Steff to start with Johnny M on the bench if Halfpenny starts at 15. Though I'd prefer to have Johnny at 15....

While Tyler does seem to have improved and looked good when he came on against Ulster and Foxy played a little better last weekend my concern is that neither of them have been playing that much recently whereas Steff Hughes and Asquith have both been playing moat games , I also think personally that it would make a better pairing with one of Foxy/Tyler mixed with one of Steff/Asquith.

Well they made last season's play offs which makes them a decent outfit. Front row of Obano, Dunn & Stuart with Ewels in the row and Falatau & Underhill in the back row. Ben Spencer at 9, Rhys at 10, Joseph in centre with back 3 of McConnachie, Cociganisa & Watson they are not to be underestimated. If both teams were at full strength it would be a good contest. We are going to be missing some keys guys in Liam, Johnny Will & Patchell combined with very restricted training over the past 14 days make them strong favourites in my book.

Both us and Bath have alot to prove. I expect this to be a heated match. Their internationals are coming off a good campaign and look to have some form about them. Im not sure what Scarlets side will turn up at the moment, will it be an indisciplined mess or a team with the go forward ball in a hand mentality.

Whats your prediction or take on the game?

Having seen Bath in recent games overall been poor, a strong pack and Spencer the Sarries 9 on loan was impressive last weekend .

Worcester were very poor the weekend and referee  Tom Foley frankly give them nothing . Bath were more clinical in attack, but Worcester cut them open many times but failed to take there chances .

Bath defence close to line was excellent! They will have there Internationals back and so will we . They will be without an experienced 10 by looks of it ? We must take advantage of that EJPT,I am tipping us for a hard fought win, the weather forecast looks good .

Fair point, but Scrums aside we were the better side against Edinburgh ,the only side who played any rugby .

They are bound to improve they were starting from the lowest base point and have signed some good players guys like Roberts and holmes are good players and will improve them

Ryan is a decent coach and they do have some good players , I wouldn't say they are the best welsh region but they are probably better than the blues and quite possibly better than the ospreys (certainly during the test window)

I expect them to finish above those 2 two in the league but below us

how many sides make it into the lge play offs, is it just the top 2 from each section?

On a side note I'd take a losing BP this weekend, keep us in the frame

It used to be the top three from each conference that made the play offs, but I don’t think they’ve announced how many will be in it this season yet.

Those two are on fire at the moment - the Scarlets also have some serious back row talent, but choices limited by injury, so I'd expect Bath to win that battle.

I don't know enough about most of their other players to make any sort of prediction, though.

In fairness Blade Thompson had a great international window. Aside from a couple of front rowers he really stood out for Scotland.

I would say that both front 5's are evenly matched. I would take our back row of Blade/Kennedy, Sione and Jac Morgan every time over Mercer, Faletau & Underhill. Many commentators are talking up Faletau for his performance against Italy. We should not forget that their two best back row operators by a distance - Polledri & Negri were not playing. Our back row have been playing out of their skins for a few weeks.

Sides, pending team announcements, are well matched with both missing their best 10's. Very much is going to depend on what sort of preparation our team have had. May well come down to goalkicking so we have the edge in that area.

Well depends if we go back to the same format as previously which 3 from each conference, 2 and 3 playing off and the winners playing the teams in 1st

My team v Bath

15 - Leigh Halfpenny
14 - Johnny McNicholl
13 - Jonathan Davies
12 - Steff Hughes
11 - Steff Evans
10 - Dan Jones
9 - Gareth Davies
8 - Sione Kalamafoni
7 - Jac Morgan
6 - Blade Thompson
5 - Sam Lousi
4 - Jake Ball
3 - Samson Lee
2 - Ryan Elias
1 - Wyn Jones

Bench
16 - Taylor Davies

18 - Javan Sebastien
19 - Tevita Ratuva
20 - Josh McCloud
21 - Kieran Hardy
22 - Angus O'Brien
23 - Paul Asquith

Couple of tight calls, Steff Hughes and Asquith for instance but I'd start with Steff for his attacking kicking game, then bring Asquith off to create things later in the game. I'd also start with Jac then bring Josh on since Jac has played more recently.

Bath could be without their first 3 choice 10's - Priestland and Mateveisi

Tom DeGalanville also serving his barbarians ban I believe

J Joseph may be back from a slight calf injury

Yep!

You can get it for £25 for a monthly pass and watch on smart TVs or cast it. Two people can use one log in so you could go on halfers with someone. Other ways are if you have mobile with BT or EE you may be eligible for it. Again you can share the log in.
