Next stop South Africa!
This does have some merits above the previous stops ie N.America, Georgia etc, in that:
Down side is the flights are lengthy and from a supporters perspective too expensive, meaning no away support at either end. What's everyone's feelings in this? Would this have to be cleared by SANZAR or World Rugby? Would the two teams qualify for Europe and how would that work?

How on earth Welsh rugby stacks this sort of globalisation up against sorting out player career pathways in the villages and run down economically towns in Wales escapes me!

With 2 ready-made refugee South African teams, there's some logic, but only instead of (rather than as well as) the Italian teams. Saffers couldn't conceivably qualify for RCC - this would be merely be a lifeline competition for them.
Two long-haul trips for each Pro12 team might be feasible, although cramming them into an already over-crowded schedule seems impractical, but think of the travel for the 2 SA teams - they'd have to be desperate (and have an airline ready to sponsor them) to make it happen, not a the best position to make a sound commercial decision, perhaps. Sounds like McKeever is flying a kite in the short window of opportunity before Cheetahs & S Kings are disbanded - interesting to see if the will (& money) is there to overcome the obvious challenges with the concept. Sounds very messy to me. These speculative ideas always have some pot of gold at the end of their rainbow. I'd rather we look to what happens when the stadium debt is paid off and try to build an effective partnership with the WRU. We haven't fixed our own domestic issues yet. Kings are also a pretty toxic brand in SA aren't they?
I wonder if they'd still be interested if the Super 18 ditched their plans to cut franchises? |

One idea may be for say the O's and Scarlets to head to SA en masse and stay there for 2 weeks play both matches then leg it home. There may be a cost saving with block bookings of around 100 people. I'm sure that there are plenty of exiles out there to offer some support for the away teams.

Not holding my breath. RSA Teams flying back and forth to Europe every couple of weeks? Or would they based in Europe?
And this pearler "would enable most, if not all games to be played outside the Test window" They can't manage to get the current schedule outside the test windows let alone adding extra games. |

I think that sentence sums up the Pro12 for me. It truly is the AirB&B of rugby leagues. |

Think one long haul flight to encompass both away fixtures would be very sensible on lots of levels, not just financially. The Saffers could do similarly for their away matches.
It'd mean the PRO12 would have to give all clubs equal and better balance of home and away scheduling than they've been capable of/willing to do so far. Let's see what happens. |
