Poor show from the BBC, possibly being nudged in a certain direction by the WRU (who probably gave them the report) because there's no mention of the WRU in the BBC's write up of this and the fact they didn't leave Priceaterhousecoopers have full access to their accounts like the regions did, reasonably sure the 'poor management' it refers to is largely in the early days of regional rugby and the unsustainability it a given, we all know that from the accounts coming out from the regions over the past few years and the yearly outcry off the back of them (and often more frequent when the press rehash the stories).

I'd guess that comments about not all the regions not being able up to date business plans is the Dragons and we've all been lumped into it rather than them being singled out. Not much to see here really IMO, just accounts which we've already seen (except the Dragons) being republished effectively.

Great line to finish in the article, the regions are set to meet to discuss in the next few days - as if they haven't been discussing it for months anyway.

I don't see anything but good news in this.

It tells the Pro WRU agenda boys nothing that they didn't already know about the regions (non commercially viable) yet it tells the public what we have been banging on about for ages:

-central contracts are not recommended
-a collaborative approach is recommended
-alternative funding sources are needed for Welsh domestic rugby

Unless I've read it wrong. Be aware though that it isn't the full report. There might be a big "if" after all that.

What I see as the meat of the outcome from this report (and unlikely to have been misrepresented by this article) is this bit:

Options for Welsh Rugby
  • Status quo
  • Change season structure
  • Centrally contract players
  • Disband regions, revert to clubs
  • Reduce number of regions
  • WRU takes over all pro rugby
  • Form collaborative management board to enforce decisions

So there we go then. Bets/opinions/criticisms on these options?

It may be a bit extreme but wonder what would happen if next January the regions told the WRU sorry all our internationals are injured or ill. See what the WRU do without cooperation from the regions.

Best part of a year wasted waiting for this pile of c*&p IMO.

Didn't need PWC to tell us any of this stuff, we could all of worked it out for ourselves.

The shambles as ever is no closer to a solution!

What's that, a bible reference?

They didn't come up with the only sensible suggestion of disbanding the ospreys and send Adam jones to the scarlets

Yeah, there wasn't anything unexpected in there and it's made clear that a return to the "club" system would be detrimental.

The bottom line isn't any different, but at least it sets out to A N Other moron that having a 5th Region (i.e. Ponty) ain't going to happen.

I hope it embarrasses the WRU into repairing damaged relationships with the Regions and actively trying to help them out, rather than sticking the boot in and offering mutton dressed as lamb.

Yeah I could have told the WRU all of that for free, they then could of div-ied up all the money they paid to PWC amongst the regions. PWC should be CWT (complete waste of time) or MFN (money for nothing)!
