No although I'm not sure he's out of contract.

Unrelated but, I've been looking at Treviso signings for next season and they've brought in Ruzza from Zebre, Whetu Douglas a superb 8 from NZ and Nasi Manu. That makes 3 very good No. 8s

They've also signed Marty Banks who is another very good player. I can see them being an improved team next season.

In contrast Zebre don't seem to have signed anybody. With their financial issues, does that suggest there is a doubt over whether they will even be around next season. Maybe the IRU are putting all their eggs in one Treviso sized basket...

Didn't someone post a few months back that the IRU are moving the franchise to Rome ?

FIR said Zebre will remain in Parma next year, but in this moment they are in a failure procedure and the new president, a woman from Parma, contacted the tribunal for the sold of the team...a strange situation, tipical from italian rugby...They this year will sign players from Italian league and will be used ad a development club...Treviso signed good players and maybe someone will arrive in the next time. Next week will be the derby, who win will go in Champions cup, maybe a failed team will go..

Mr Ian, is it possible that in the mysterious world of the FIR that they could still move the franchise that is Zebre now, to a new side in Rome? Whichever way it turns out, the side is likely to be beaten by large scores as there's no quality recruitment.

A sad situation.

In Rome is difficoult cause of there isn t a structure or field for them, the old Tre Fontane is totally ruined and needs a big investiment for restructuration, but nobody want to spend money...
Other roman clubs work in their little universe, there are 3 or 4 big club in Rome, many play in Serie A but there isnt an unique team for make something of important...the only club who co work with federation and Zebre are the Fiamme Oro, the team of Police...for play with them you have to win a councorse and after the rugby career you remain a police, Carlo Canna is one of them and they are the only pro of italian league...of course they play the games in Caserma Gelsomini.
I think Zebre could go to Milan, but behind needs a serious project, if not we remain the joke of european rugby

I would've thought he would be out of contract by now, he's been at Saracens for two years and rarely seems to feature. Not really surprising with their back row options mind!
Would be a good pick up if he is available.

Thanks. The recruitment almost seems as if the FIR have turned the tap of money off and are inflicting a death by financial strangulation via humiliation of huge proportions next season.

Weird!

I didn't know that and hence Zebra. Learn something every day and I think that's pretty nice. As to Italian competitiveness you can see both Zebra and Treviso do win games whereas at one point they did not. Development not so sure and the slide of the National side has been evident with aging stars or retirement of key players without any replacements coming forwards. Perhaps the emergence of Argentina as a pro rugby country in the SH season has hurt potential player recruitment.

I thought that the first crop of players from the Italian accadamies were coming through in the under 20's this year and that they performed well enough to suggest that this will make an improvement to the national side in the future.

The Italian national side this year suffered badly for the lack of a reliable goal-kicker - quite unlike the days of Diego Dominguez (who was originally from Argentina, too, I think).

Cooper Vuna and Tom Biggs both out of contract at Worcester. Two good and experienced wingers there.

Would be a great pick up for us at the right price. Athletic, hard carrier, good offloader, not currently involved with the internationals.

I realise it's not regional but thought it was still worth noting.

Leicester are planning a mass turnover of players according to the rugby paper with 5+ set to be allowed to leave despite being under contract including JP Pieterson, Matthew Tait and no.8 Mccaffrey.

With lots of budgets already used up it might prove hard for those guys to find new teams. Tait could work for us, and Mccaffrey is a mobile no.8 although not a massive carrier he would be better than what we have.

Gone to Glasgow to replace Strauss.

Edinburgh have signed Fruean which is a good signing for them.

Didn't we pull out of signing Mccaffrey a few years ago? I'd doubt he would be interested in us after that
