Ellis wasn’t looking so good and hope he’s ok post injury. Can’t have been easy.

It was a very entertaining game. The Blues are up to the same game as us- signing WQ lads from odd places- that loose head prop Bevacqua looks a real prospect at just about 19. When he went off, I thought that would be the end of our scrum dominance but then Harri O Connor made a real mess of the English in the last scrum from tight head so, on the basis of one scrum (!!) perhaps he is the real deal as well. Costelow had to be the MoM but the back row were fantastic.

Let's not get carried away.. good solid performance showing classy running skills but also very astute at controlling the game, but this is U20s and England were poor by previous standards. I agree, he does look a very good prospect but a bit of perspective would be good.
Also agree that although he wasn't mentioned much in commentary Jac Morgan went about his business in a quiet but very effective way, looks like another good back row option in the not too distant future.

Just checked on wiki. He's 5' 8". He will be targetted in defense in the pros. Think Matthew Morgan or Jordan Williams. Still great game tonight and I wish him the best.

Yes he is short & yes all 10's are targeted but what makes this lad a bit different is that he enjoys defending. He is very tenacious and what his lack of height does give him is that he is quicker into the correct tackling position than say someone built like Patchell. We are wise to be cautious but this lad could be starting for us in September so I am going to get excited. In recent years I have seen some very good young guys coming through the 20's - Baldwin, Conbeer & Dan Davis. This year Costellow, Morgan & Knott are carrying on that trend.

agree about perspective but that's the second similar try he has scored this campaign, his speed off the mark is electric and as GPR said he seems to have an appetite for defending and the comparison to Jordan isn't quite fair as he was never a good defender and if any further proof was needed ask the tigers fans what they think about him leaving, and instead of saying that England were poor how about a bit of credit for a young welsh side who went to a hostile place and beat the old enemy.

Look we certainly don't want to heap pressure on any young player. That said young Ioan Lloyd has been earning rave reviews for his performances, mostly off the bench, for Bristol in the Gallagher Premiership. Costellow is keeping him out of the 10 shirt which shows how much he is rated.
Young guys can and have become top quality performers very quickly after 20's level - look at James Ryan, Maro Itoje & Ntamack. There is something special about this lad so lets celebrate that he is Welsh and soon to be a Scarlet.

He looks V good and has been highly rated all the way through age group rugby. Matthew morgan and jordan and sam davies were all as good at this level if not better though so we must keep that in mind, This lad looks a far better defender but in the modern game size will matter. Our under 20s have improved hugely as the tournament hAs gone fair play to them and to the coaches for that 👍👍

Yes it has been a great coaching performance. Coaching age group teams is difficult with the continual turn over of players. Good to see Melon finding his feet as a coach. The most impressive aspect of the team is the commitment, teamwork and get the job done aspect that has developed during the championship. There are some real leaders scattered through the team including Costelow and of course Jac Morgan. Sometimes these are qualities that are more important than brute force or even skill.

I thought that the England pack might dominate us as they looked big lumps ( as usual) compared to Wales but if anything we were better than them certainly in the set piece and the back row. Big surprise that all was. It gave Sam a bit of a platform anyway 👍 Yes he looks small but was not shy in grabbing the big opposition like a terrier which was always Jordan’s Achilles heel Well done coaches ex Scarlet Rich Kelly and Gethin Jenkins
