It's devastating for Rob, Sampson and Steff to miss out on the World Cup however it has to be a silver lining for us now.
I am sure they all will want to show their credentials whilst the World cup is on, and the early rounds of the Pro 14 play out.
We need a strong start and the period whilst our other Internationals are away will be critical for our success this season.

PS: Congrats to Cubby in making the squad. Well deserved for the determination he has shown, and also the commitment not to change who he is just to get International honours.
I hope he has a storming tournament.ClapClapClapClap

Samson is a shadow of the player of a few seasons ago, injuries have taken their toll. Rob has had a lot of recent problems. Gatland said he was worried about their durability. Steff was always going to get cut.

Well done to Cubby, I'm surprised Gatland went with him, he never seemed to be a favourite of his.

Rob Evs is the only surprise for me. Shocking decision.
One eyed turk, nothing more nothing less.

Agree shocking decision leaving Rob Evans out. Very strange, unless carrying an injury, no reason why he should be left out.

It is good judgment in my book.Gats mentioned Robs run of  different injuries in the context of durability so seems a big question mark over Rob at present on fitness. He needs a long settled run with the Scarlets. I think the same was observed re Samson . Then this has been a concern of mine as both seemed to be unfit a lot in very physical positions and not the calibre they were . Bit of a worry for us

Can't use that as an excuse and then pick the likes of shingler, cubby, Halfpenny, patch, Morriarty, Tom Williams... Would have taken faletau and Ellis Jenkins if anywhere near fit...

Another gatland contradiction of a line in my opinion.

Wales scrum has crumbled without their best scrummagers.

Gatland must think he doesn't need a strong set piece during the tournament.

If accept if the same was across the squad. Hill has a fracture, but yet is included, even though unlikely to play in the first 3 games, hardly durable!, also A number of other members of the squad are included having not featured. Watkins over Scott williams is another one I’m struggling with. Scott was by far the better centre against Ireland.

Also Scott is far more experienced. I can't remember anything significant Watkin has done in a Wales/Osprey shirt. Happy to be corrected of course.

Good judgement? And yet he decides to take Hill who only has one good leg.

I can understand the logic if neither Rob or Sam are 100%, and if we are honest neither have been for a while, but then to take Cory Hill with a leg fracture, even if it is a minor one seems strange to me. Granted I am not medically qualified but if there is a weakness there maybe it would be better for him to sit this one out and get back to full fitness with the Dragons, same as it's now an opportunity for the Scarlets to get Rob and Sam back to where they need to be. My greater concern is that he is taking Wyn Jones to cover both sides of the scrum - surely the whole Rhodri Jones to tight head debacle should be a clear message that its better to take specialist props than try to convert someone a few weeks before the tournament.

Taking Hill might be a bad idea also. Either way it doesn't make not picking Rob a bad judgement.

He hasn't played well for us for a while now, and he's been injured for weeks apparently.

I wouldn't have taken Shingler either and Samson was poor at scrum time on Saturday, and he offers very little around the field.

Gatland has a history of making decisions that have surprised people and they’ve justified themselves. I have every faith in him.

Gatland says we don't develop players and only he is willing to take a punt on youngsters.

I read that , it's a stupid quote, apparently the coaches at the regions are under pressure to get results, well Warren that's their job

Feel sorry for Rob, he is a great guy and had high hopes for the World Cup, luckily for us he's not the type of person to stay down for too long. I'd expect him to be huge for us first few weeks of the season.

What confuses me is the World Cup is 3/4 weeks away. There is another warm up match to come and the World Cup is nearly 9 weeks long. He has basically got nearly a month to improve his fitness then another couple of weeks until we are in to the Aus and Fiji games and he obviously can't be that far away from full fitness. Our scrum has been smashed the last 3 games and Rob is a stronger scrummager than Smith and Carre from what I've seen.
