What kind of message does it send out to young players 😡😡

Don't think he's played anywhere near his best form  this season and certainly nowhere near international standard. He's better off playing with us than bench-warming with Wales for a month. Far more likely to improve that way.
that never stopped them picking Cuthbert.

Useful mixture of fair selections & total bollocks. What must Cubby be thinking - he plays the majority of competitive games for us over the past two seasons nearly always MOM or thereabouts & doesn't get a look in and Sam Cross starts one game & is in the squad ahead of Ollie Griffiths - someone please explain that to me.

Frankly if I was either Cubby or Scott I would be seriously considering where my future lay from 2018 onwards.

Fair comments - I didn't know Owen Williams had been injured - but I still think Scott will benefit from a period with the Scarlets, and will be astonished if he's not back for the 6N. Cubby is injured, but should have been picked long ago. Never heard of Sam Cross, but Ollie Griffiths is a very promising player. Odd.
I share no-one's ideas. I have my own.

I think the decision to leave Scott out should be applauded. The fans that are calling the decision ridiculous are no doubt the fans that ridiculed the selectors for picking an out of form Cuthbert last February. Scott Williams is a class player, but he hasn't been playing anywhere near his best recently. He'll have time to pick this up and hopefully come February, he'll be back in the Wales squad.

Perhaps you could explain what your reference to Cuthbert is? Did I miss it or are you suggesting that those of us who ridiculed selecting Cuthbert were somehow proven wrong? In any decision to leave out a player the selectors have to be judged by who the alternative is. My current argument is that I would have selected Scott ahead of Owen Williams and indeed either Ollie Griffiths or Thomas Young ahead of Sam Cross.

The reason I referred to Cuthbert as he was still selected for international honours while being out of form. This wasn't fair on Cuthbert, as it wasn't fair on Priestland. The Welsh fans look for scapegoats, and I wouldn't want that to be Scott Williams. I wouldn't want us being in a position where we lose a player because they are looking for a way out of Wales down the line. Scott Williams is undoubted class, but I wouldn't want him being selected out of form.

Always been a massive fan of Priestland, and there was a little part of me that was happy that he had a stormer on Friday in front of the Welsh public. I also think Cuthbert is a good player, like everyone says, Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Think including Parkes in the team gives Wales more options at centre at the RWC. Hearing Gatlands reasoning behind selecting sam cross makes you wonder why he hasnt thought the same about cubby over the years! Absolute joke.

hard to have confidence in selectors who ignored cubby for no rugby reasons , delighted patchell is in and priestland deserves a recall too. cory allen has slipped back though at the ospreys playing on the wing hasnt helped

I agree with you Matthew over the Sam Cross issue - an absolute joke even when you look at the other options still available namely Young & Griffiths. Gatland has clearly shown that Cubby's face doesn't fit & that is shameful.

I don't believe any player has a right to be selected but you have to look at the options selected ahead of a player. For instance if Gatland had selected Beck & Watkin ahead of Scott I would have said nothing but Owen Williams at centre???? Gatland has a duty to get this squad ready for the 6 nations and the 2019 World Cup so I applaud selecting Watkin who has a big future but Owen has never shown that he is a Farrell in the waiting yet.

I’m shocked Scott Williams hasn’t been picked. I would’ve started him and Jon. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to show Gatland he’s made a mistake over the next few weeks, hopefully starting with a big performance v Cardiff on Saturday.

I think we’ll get 4 players released for Treviso. Shingler, Aled, Patchell and Parkes.

Scott will be hugely disappointed. But, in all honesty, he doesn’t deserve to get chosen ahead of HP on current form. It was only a few months ago Scott was unlucky not to go on the Lions tour as a specialist 12. Right now, he’s only good enough for our bench. Whatever the reason is, I hope Scott can resolve it and get back to the world class form we know he’s more than capable of.

Only one team plays in red. (Sorry, Scarlet)

I'm guessing they've picked Hadleigh so that he's fully qualified for Wales before they change the rules next year. Doesn't seem any point otherwise if he's only available for one match. It is very tough on Scott though in my opinion.

A tweet I saw earlier "Sam Cross - 7s specialist, one storming game = selected. Cubby - 7s specialist, three storming seasons = not given a chance."

Sums it up perfectly. Will Boyde is also very, very unlucky.

Think thats optimistic if Gatlands previous MO is anything to go by. I would have thought that Shingler is pencilled in to start against Australia & he tends to keep all his half backs in camp early doors. Of the 4 think we'll see Hadleigh. Now if Rob doesn't play against the Blues I can see him being released for the Treviso game.

Thread title is a little disingenuous to what must be a record Scarlet contingent in a Wales squad?

Apart from the obvious selections, a really big call out to Wyn, Aaron, Steff, Hadleigh, and Patch...delighted for them...all had a great few months, and at the top of their game. A little mystified by Elias' exclusion, his time will come for sure.

Lots of interesting posts about Scott. Thanks!

It's pro sport, there's no room for sympathy, empathy or sentiment of any kind. He'll suck it up, keep his head down, and continue to give it 100%, obviously.

I've smiled many times when I've seen or read Scott get rave reviews when he played poorly, but made one eye catching line break or something, it's the same smile when I see him vilified when play well, but make one notable error.

To that end he does seem to have inherited Rhys P's 'crown' of most heavily scrutinised player at the club, both by the supporters, and indeed the coaches. Be interesting to see how that plays out !

Ironically his value just went up a notch today. It's a funny old world.

I can suggest 38,778 reasons why that may be the case on here in particular!
