The IRFU seem to force out older players by making much lower contract offers to them. It happens a lot.

Tom James has left the Blues a year early by mutual consent, he wants to continue playing professional rugby within Wales.

Yeah I have noticed.

They, the IRFU, also have told Ulster who want to sign a scrum half that the signing must be Irish qualified.

Dare I say it the IRFU are showing how, with limited resources, you can manage your playing squads & still allow the regions to be highly competitive - all 4 regions in the pro 14 play offs and the knock out stages of the European Cups. That statistic is something our WRU can only ever dream about. Compare the performance of the IRFU & the WRU in recent years - with decent, top level management, anything is possible.

dragons could do a lot worse, big strong fast and knows where the try line is

tbh I wouldn't object if we signed him for a season, would add depth to the wing position

FWIW my view is that back row is such a high attrition position that you need a bank of at least 8 or 9 quality players these days ( excluding un-tried youngsters), and at least 4 that can cover 6 to 8.

He isnt the first name for most people in their ideal 6,7 and 8 team, but Boyde has started more games for the Scarlets than any other back rower this season...and last season...fairly equal split in the 6,7 and 8 shirt too...the very epitome of 'good cover'.

Blues have been smart, as they were with Turnbull. Good luck to him.

fair call but given the blues resources at back row compared to their resources at lock, I would be looking to recruit there first

I'd say bullbring would have been a better addition for them

what is dom day upto next year still at sarries?

Wonder if that means Baker has had a set back. Interesting signing.

Pretty much what was expected as soon as they signed Anscombe. Price & Cai Evans going to see plenty of minutes next season.

I thought the same, mind Gareth Evans has only played 85 times over the last 8 years for Gloucester.

It's a good signing for the O's in the context of being WQ but off Wales' radar.

Pretty sure we were linked with him a few years ago?

Yes he's only played 80 odd times for Glaws but the back row is definitely one of their strengths.. Ben Morgan, Ruan Ackerman, Jaco Kriel, Lewis Ludlow,Jake Polledri are currently in the squad while recently they've had the likes of Matt Kvesic, Ross Moriarty, Sione Kalamafoni etc.
