Wales U20s 15 Argentina U20s 39 Well - what a disappointment. This looked a bit like a mirror image of the senior game - Wales had far more possession and territory, but looked slow and lethargic. Argentina counter-attacked very quickly when they turned over ball, and looked far more lively. Wales also missed a good number of chances to score, or at least put Argentina under pressure - in a 5 min period, two penalties were kicked to within a few yards of the Argentina line, but the throws were not straight on both occasions... unforgivable. There was yet another not straight later on. Wales's running and passing looked slower than their opponents, and one thing that really got me... on several occasions, at the tackle area, the scrum half was miles away - in those circumstances, I always feel that the first man up should clear the ball quickly... not here ... the boys waited for the 9 every time, slowing down the ball and allowing the defence to reorganise. Argentina also committed far fewer players to the ruck than Wales, and fanned out - the obvious tactic to use then is the old pick-and-go, to draw in the defenders - but we hardly saw it. A naive performance, and a poor reflection on the coaching team, too. From a Scarlets PoV, Conbeer scored a brilliant try, beating around 5 men on his way to the line... he should probably have scored another, but after beating a few opponents he tried to pass out to the wing, not seeing a defender in the way, who intercepted. Baldwin made a couple of powerful runs on the wing, and a big cover tackle.... neither saw enough of the ball, though. Nicholas had a quiet game, and threw an interception pass, so not his best day. Wales were well beaten by a team playing at a higher tempo.
