Why was he so bad tonight
got smashed in the scrums, conceded a late penalty for picking up ball offside which nearly cost game.

What driven backwards smashed or kept collapssing the scrum smashed.

He's desparately keen to make his mark on the game when he comes on. You can see he's bristling. Just gets the wrong side of the ref or makes a slightly clumsy intervention at the breakdown...there's no getting away from the facts though, 2 yellow cards and/or he concedes a pen in the first couple of mins he is on of all games so far. Just over-enthusiastic mixed with a bit of in-experience really.
He'll learn.

Maybe he's earning himself an undeserved reputation among refs?

He needs to start a game.

You may be right about Rob in the LV Zep but I reckon the Dragons and Saracens will put out strong sides.

He needs 80 mins to sort his discipline out. LV should help!

I've just checked the Rabo12 table folks.  Lets not panic - we will be in the top 6 no problem.  Top 4 is looking difficult now though.

We've played 8 games and only lost 3, including two tough games in Europe.  Cool

That's the Scarlets, its in their DNA.

The Pro 12 will become much harder for the rest of the season,  The 12 teams are now playing for their survival in the top teir of the European competition.  The Italians want 2 teams in it, as do the Scots,  the Irish will fight like hell to keep their four teams in it.  These teams will be fully supported by their home unions to give them their best shot.  The Ospreys will make it ok.  That leaves the rest of us relying on Roger.  Don't like our chances.  I predict just one Welsh Region to make the top teir for next season.Cry

We should be able to secure 6th this season.

Could really do with a win at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday though. Big game.

Don't see it Mike.  Leinster, Ulster, Munster, Ospreys, Glasgow have much deeper squads than us. That leaves us in one heck of a battle with some good sides to try and get the sixth spot. We won't get anything from our next game against Ulster and will really struggle without our Welsh squadies when Wales come calling.

We just have to beat Treviso, Blues and the Dregs to sixth spot. We really should be able to manage that.

Who is in the race for 6th spot with us?

Dragons will fade now, Blues already lost to Zebre!!!!  We should be able to beat the rest into 6th spot.

It's very strange that whenever people on here are predicting a bonus point win, we go on to play badly and are lucky to win at all.
Do we actually have strategies for use against particular sides, or do we just think that we'll smash certain sides and all that we have to do is work the ball wide and wait for the bonus point.
The sides at the bottom of the Rabo usually play a simple physical game but their forwards are committed and their backs are ready and determined and put real pressure on opponents who are more skillful. To beat a side like that away from home we've got to be equally determined and put the same sort of pressure on them.
It is inexcusable to miss first time tackles. I thought that this was beginning to be sorted out but it's looking like we thought we wouldn't have to bother tonight. If we meet fire with fire they will make as many, if not more mistakes than we will and from some of them will come the opportunity to spread the ball wide. We can run the ball from everywhere when we dominate or they tire.

Our basic skills and lineout was very poor. That's why we lost, basic errors meant we couldnt build any attacking momentum. Against a relatively inadequate team like Zebre you have to build the phases. Their defensive structure might be able to hold out for 4 phases but not for 8.

As we played tonight we couldn't keep hold of the ball for 4 phases let alone 8.

Bollocks to this inexperience is why he gets carded almost every game? Like the others who haven't played much regional game? No not accepting that. I don't blame it all on him at all, was a shambles of a game. Thank god Rhys saved us with a very under pressure kick! Never thought I'd say that but since his return his confidence isn't getting affected anymore. Dare I say no.10 in the a.i's and zebra are bottom we needed a win there nothing less. You think ulster at home will be eaiser?!

We were dire. Unless you have real strength in depth (which we can't afford), I just don't think teams can raise themselves consistently due to the attritional nature of modern rugby. The last two weeks has just taken too much out of us I reckon.

We should still have had enough to win though and the lineout was inexcusable.

Two points unhappily gained, but a setback in the league.

Yes , Rhys saved us tonight.

Don't agree with your take on the last two weeks taking too much out of us.  If that is the case   -  - i.e. you can't expect the same players ( by and large  ) to deliver three big performances on the trot, then we have some serious motivational problems to address.

Yes, I do realise that the attritional nature of the modern game favours clubs which have far greater strength in depth than ours, but to me it seemed as if we were hugely lacking in desire and motivation there tonight as a team. Our mindset wasn't right from the start.

Consider the Ospreys performance tonight - dynamic and controlled power play when it mattered which gave them a well deserved bonus point. They got a 5 point win after a hugely disappointing loss last week, which has more or less finished them in Europe for this season.  They came out fighting after a couple of very attritional games in the Heineken.  It's not as if they have such a huge strength in depth either compared to some of the Euro giants.  What they do seem to have in bags is guts and doggedness, particularly in defence.  We blow hot  ( witness our line defence and our line speed in the last two games  - very good )  and we blow cold - tonight's performance bordered on casual to comatose.
Add to that  a very poor appreciation by our players of how to read a game.
The coaches can't be absolved  from this criticism either.  They made several poor decisions in substitutions tonight and also in their failure to address any of the problems which were so manifest in the first half.

Yes, the lineout play was inexcusable.   Also inexplicable.   How on earth did it happen?.  Who was at fault?  Time and time again it was buggered up.  What I find disappointing  ( admittedly from a poor stream on a PC ) is that we were the ones responsible for our failures by overthrowing, lack of communication etc. It wasn't as if we were being out-thought or out -jumped by better opposition.

I could go on and on, but enough is enough.  Others will take over,
Suffice to say that I am very disappointed with that team performance tonight.  That was far from being the sum of our parts!
It's a thinking man's game

Didn't see game tonight but Im sure one of his yellows possibly the one at the end of the Quins game was a 'team' yellow for persistant offending. he literally had just come on. Stand to be corrected on that as I had had a light ale that day.
We all had Doctor's papers!
