Dear forum,

We have our dog back in Wales with us (he's a Kenyan rescue, now 7).

We've not much of a clue on pet insurance - any do's and don'ts or general guidance on where to go/who to avoid would be gratefully received,

Go to your new vet and speak to them regarding who they accept..not all vets will accept insurance from supermarkets etc as they look not to pay out when the money's are needed

Our youngest springer - Brenin has been through 3 major surgeries on his elbows which cost upwards of £9K. We have him insured with E&L & have to say that they paid out up to the stated maximums per year very promptly. In addition the monthly fee has remained pretty stable at between £30-£40 per month.

Have found Animal friends good - not the most expensive and never had a problem with them when we have needed to make a claim. Just check the maximums for annual payouts and life time conditions if you choose a policy with them as they are fairly low in the entry level policies

Check that they will pay out if it's a recognised problem with a certain type of bleed

We are with many pets for our lab, they will pay vets directly. Had to claim off them once, submitted the invoice at 9am & funds were un my account by 3pm the same day.
