Steak kind of tacos tonight but rather than buying taco shells, going to make some homemade flat breads & serve with the marinaded steak, pickled veggies & some form of a sauce.

Sounds very nice and ideal with this evening’s match.

Sunday roast as usual will feature plenty of our veg - red cabbage, parsnips, carrots & swede.
All as appetising as ever.

The leek & tomato sauce sounds intriguing.

I think FS wins the prize for rugby themed meal this evening with his Argentinian underdog menu.

Either nation in the Saturday semi could lay claim to GPR’s seafood linguine.

Argentinian or Kiwi, or like the officials, from a neutral country?

Agrentine Malbec but might go for a Pinot Noir from New Zealand for a bit of fairness.

Made a prawn & chorizo jambalaya last night. Very tasty & using the spicy chorizo gave it a lovely but not over powering zing. Accompanied by a lovely bottle of Rioja blush, a new one on me - 13.5 & a very smooth quaff!!!!

Turkeys - now there is a topical subject. Diane & I have over the years always tried to support our local butchers wherever we have lived but sometimes you have to draw the line. Last year we broke with tradition & decided to forego the fresh available from  our butcher at the cost of around £13/kg = for our 9kg bird around £120.

Instead we bought a frozen bird from Sainsburys - similar size £28. At the same time I also bought a 6 kg bird for Easter & a smaller one for a Sunday lunch with family during November & still ended up only paying around £60 for three birds!!!!!

All three frozen turkeys were delicious. This year we were planning the same but my daughter's boyfriend - Hef the chef - who hails from Pembrokeshire & is having his first Xmas at chez Roberts has insisted on supplying the turkey from a mate's farm. What is it with these Pembrokeshire boys - they've always got a mate!!!!!

So we have settled for two frozen turkeys this year one we are having tomorrow.

One of my favourite Autumn/Winter meals planned for Saturday - pork & chorizo cassoulet. Slow cooked pork belly in a rich red wine & mushroom sauce. I get my butcher to leave the bone in the pork belly as it helps the flavour. Have a nice Malbec to accompany.

That’s a lovely combination for the cassoulet with or without the Malbec - better with, obviously. 😋

Had seafood chowder on Friday & roast turkey dinner yesterday to say goodbye to our neighbour who is moving into a specialist residential home for sufferers of alzheimers. Christened our newly acquired Sporting Wines - 9-3 on Friday & Messi's Malbec on Saturday. Very satisfying.

A lovely way to say goodbye to your neighbour.

Glad the wines hit the spot.

As per the wine etc thread, as a foodstuff I thought it worth posting here too. Maybe green-fingers GPR & Diane can already offer a view on this.

Here’s a claim! It’s from Welsh Bros of Scotland, Ontario, Canada.

“Want to avoid a hangover?

Eat Asparagus!

Eating asparagus before you start drinking can help protect your liver. Its minerals and amino acids not only protect the liver from toxins, the enzymes in asparagus can help break down the alcohol and alleviate hangovers.”

While there are “cans” it may well prompt a few more to give it a whirl.
