DRAGONS

Dean Ryan confirmed as new Dragons director of rugby, which will include a seat on the board.

Ryan got a lot of respect for his work at Worcester, and within the RFU - good credentials, but every one of his recent roles seems to have petered out and he's moved on to something else. Is he the guy who's going to take the Dragons forward, or just another stop-gap who won't see the end of his contract at Rodney Parade? The DoR role & directorship point to commitment...

I really don't understand why the Dragons have not gone for Welsh coach. Surely Howley, McBride & Ruddock could have done a job.

An experienced Senior rugby man and organiser leading the rugby direction is probably what the club needs and then s coaching group under him . Why not I guess if they have the money !

maybe the Dragons didnt want the worst performing attack and forwards coach (again) (going by stats)...!

it was said that howley and mcbryde was on their shortlist/wishlist though...no doubt Leinster and Munster a bigger draw for them than Dragons.

Looks like Ruddock and Howley are set up for Munster though.

OSPREYS

Nicky Smith has re-signed for the Os on a 4-year deal which keeps him there til 2023. The 25-year old Wales prop had been talking to Cardiff & Sale before agreeing a long term extension at the Liberty.

Well I take your point but the money on offer to be top dog at the Dragons is going to be better than on offer as assistants in Ireland.

Very interesting selections for Leinster Nobby. Kearney & Sexton I thought had one of their better games last weekend albeit in a losing cause. Both have a lot of miles on the clock and time doesn't stand still for anyone. If they win today it will be interesting to see who gets selected for next week.

Having seen how well Glasgow played last night I don't fancy either of these sides chances next weekend. Hats off to the new Welsh forwards coach for transforming an underpowered Glasgow pack into a formidable unit who blew Ulster away.

Both Clayton & SHC remain Scarlets players don't they as they were both loan signings? Interesting dilemma at the Ospreys with AWJ. Clearly a very big earner who benefitted hugely from the now defunct NDC arrangements.

Ospreys are quite reluctant to foot the full bill for his services as they only get to see him for around 10 games a season. Rumours that the WRU are being asked to make a special case and help fund keeping AWJ in Wales. This will be a real test for Project Reset.
