Congo is west Africa compared to Kenya and that is how I meant it and yes there is a bushmeat trade in fruit bats... China and Western Africa will not be the only sources of novel zoonoses but they are and will continue to be the main source and pandemic threat. There are still attempts to find the DNA of the 1918-9 flu outbreak causal organism so we have absolutely no idea of its source. I agree with your point of the Eurasian diseases wreaking devastation in populations at the point of colonisation and not being known by our western civilisations. It was far worse in the Americas than in Africa. The points I am making are in no ways racist. I am the holder of a M.Sc in Biodiversity Conservation from Imperial College.

As I understand it, this virus causes most damage to the lungs and it can't survive the acidic cauldron which exists in most of our stomachs. One suggestion as to lessen the chances of it reaching our lungs is to gargle regularly with salted water, as apparently, good old corona is not too keen on salt either. I've no idea whether this works or whether the extra salt will kill you by some other means, but if it's an old wives tale, at least the wife must have survived long enough to be regarded as old.

Have you considered that perhaps the wife was young and the tale was old ?

It’s certainly not recommended as it’s false information designed to spread on social media. In fact, it won’t do anything against the virus but could cause you harm. Anything that isn’t directly from a scientist or the government should not be followed.

Best article that I've seen about the government's handling of the situation is the following although I doubt that it will make anyone less anxious-

I don't see where I suggested any racial connotation. It's just I couldn't see the provenance and linkage to the commentary. |

It's just an analysis of how the UK government have handled the crisis, and if I'm not mistaken, it's Boris and a Tory government in charge of the decisions. Try this then if you're looking for a less depressing conclusion- https://www.theblogmire.com/an-analysis-of-the-covid-19-response-weighing-up-the-threat-from-the-virus-and-the-threat-from-the-reaction/ |

So Ffidel lets hear how you would propose to deal with it. It seems the analyses provided suggest that there has been a dramatic overreaction. It also appears to suggest that we should more or less carry on as normal and accept 1.4% deaths. It seems to me that a fundamental thing that is being missed in these quoted articles is that our capacity to deal with large numbers of respitory challenged patients across the UK is limited to thousands not tens of thousands. I certainly wouldn't want to be the A&E professional who has to explain that a loved one would have to be allowed to die. All measures taken so far are aimed at flattening the growth curve of this pandemic thereby giving our health system a chance of dealing with each and every emergency. It has not been devised by politicians but by top medical & scientific professionals many of whom are considered World leading experts in their field. I know who my money is on to get this right & it ain't some conspiracy theorist blogger!!!!.

The Barn needed now more than ever.
"Various Parc y Scarlets locations, including the Juno Moneta Indoor Arena, are being converted for the use of the NHS over the coming days with provision for up to 500 beds at the stadium"
