URC management are seriously considering introducing a draft system from other URC clubs & outside leagues to help underperforming teams like Zebre. Quite how the finances would work has not been explained.

Sometimes Anayi has strange ideas...
I would like to expect next season when welsh regions and zebres will play in similar financial conditions...
Zebre are a really young team and with one more year experience I think next season they ll do better..

With our finances and investment we really don't need to fear a draft system

Anayi translated = lots of Irish youngsters with potential not getting games, loan them out to other URC clubs to give them pro experience and pay their wages and if they are any good whip them back to Dublin asap (cf Taidgh Beirne)...meh
What's going on?

Something isn't right financially. I read recently that the South African teams have received an increase in funding up to the equivalent of £3.5 million. The Welsh teams are on £5.2m which is 50% more & are struggling with squad numbers??????

Anayi may mention Zebre but he is more worried I would suggest with the Welsh regions who, for next year, are going to struggle getting full squads for some games.

It's a bit of a challenge to realistically compare SA and Europe squad budgets.
They have always been lower in SA too.

Also the rand ( which is what the SA playing budget is based on) has devalued some 20% against the pound over the last 12 months.

I appreciate the complications in comparison Wil but the overall picture is still of South African teams competing on two fronts - Currie Cup & URC, pretty successfully I would add, at budgets quite a lot lower than the Welsh regions are getting for next season. This would suggest that some very decent players who would certainly strengthen the Welsh regions are being paid at levels we could possibly improve upon.
