Sport Wales showed highlights Friday night of the 1984 Aussie Tour. They showed clips of the club games they played on tour.

Great to see the tries again scored by Jeremy Cooper ( former coach also) and Gary Pearce.

He will always be an idol in my mind for droping the goal that beatt Cardiff in the 85 cup final.

Remember the game Gerald Cordle never scored.

Nigel played his first cup final if i remember correctly

If you look at that cup final in the context of the history of Llanelli, it was such an important game. There were no leagues in those days so to a certain extent the Welsh Cup was as important as the Heineken Cup is now. It was a barometer of how successful the club was. We hadn`t been to a cup final since 1976, and although we had had some good successes against touring opposition, the fact was we were a club in serious decline.

Over the next 10 years (including 1985), we reached 7 cup finals, winning 5 of them plus there was that famous season of 1992-93 as well.

I remember that Australia game very well as I was working on the turnstiles at the town end that day. Pearce was an outstanding kicker who had an amazing side step. Very rotund build just like Stuart Barnes in his heyday; low centre of gravity and deceptivley quick. Cooper was a great flanker who was very fit for an "amateur". I really wish that the club would make an effort to get some of these games on DVD.

Perhaps we could start another seperate thread and as a group pull resources together and perhaps do something ourselves. The other game I know I`ve got somewhere is our game against the Moaris and our HC home game against Leicester. I`ll have more of a dig around next time I`m home.

When Pearce drops the kick against Cardiff, you see a bunch of youths running down the steps behind the goals to the front. I was one of those youths Smile

Great post Pimp. I agree about the DVD. An 'Official History of the Scarlets' DVD would be great. My Scarlet Fever DVD is of rubbish quality, but I still enjoy watching it back, not so much for the big games, which I remember clearly, but for the 10 try romps which seemed to be a weekly occurence back then.

Pimp you are right the 1985 Cup final was important the following season Dad and myself joined as members . We had been going to games since 1983 but in 1986 we joined as members.

I started Bro Myrddin school in 1986 and a Monday morning was like a post mortem of the previous game at Stradey.

So many of the keen boys that followed then, still go now and i still see them.

Catch the youngsters early and they will remain Scarlet for life.

Some of those cup final days were epic, it always ssemed nice and sunny

And don`t forget those fantastic games that don`t get mentioned much anymore such as our 16-9 win over the NZ Maoris in 1983 and that epic 31-28 win against Fiji in 1985 when I think we were down 28-0 at one stage and scored the winning try in the last minutes of the game.

At the Fiji game I was working in the North Stand showing people to their seats. I was 17 at the time. I don`t remember anyone getting killed, falling down the stairs etc, etc. Some 26 years later and H&S dictates that we now have an army of stewards doing the same job that teenagers and other volunteers used to do, the difference being it now costs the Scarlets a small fortune every season. Really good times back then Cry.

I love hearing these stories of what actually went on.

I remember the Keri Townley/ Dai Fox debate!!!! reminds me of the Smiler/ Ken debate.

I always used to sneak in to the changing rooms with Simon and Carwyn to get the autographs.

Simon and his fag.!!!

Carwyn was a really nice bloke i think the Scarlets should do something in his memory
