Pele the footballer has died very sad news

Brazilian football legend Pele, arguably the greatest player ever, has died at the age of 82.

He is credited with scoring a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his country.

The only player to win the World Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970, Pele was named Fifa's Player of the Century in 2000.

He had been suffering with kidney and prostate problems in recent years.

Pele had surgery to remove a tumour from his colon in September 2021 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, after the tumour was detected in routine tests. He was readmitted to hospital in late November 2022.

His daughter Kely Nascimento has kept fans updated on her father's condition with regular social media updates from hospital.

On Thursday she posted a picture of what appeared to be Pele's family's hands on his body in hospital and wrote: "Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace."

One of the very best, if not the best I have seen.
My recall was watching  the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
My dad , my brother, and our friends  crammed into the front room of our little council house,  glued to the TV.
The game that stands out was the one v England,  when Gordon Banks made one of the most magnificent  saves of all time against Pele.
He was a giant of the game, and never forgot his poor background , was very vocal speaking  up for the divide in Brazilian  society, and the conditions  many endure, without hope.
Rest in peace Pele, you were an inspiration  to us all .!

Best player I have ever seen & by far the greatest goal scorer. As one of his captains commented " there is Pele then there are other footballers" - sums it up. RIP.

Excellent was going to post the same thing the 1970 World cup, Gordon Banks save the brilliance of Brazil...and of course Pele...the respect Moore and Pele had for each other and think you've said everything I wanted to....so I will let you have those words my friend.

He was just magnificent.

In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"

Great player... but unfortunately for us, put Wales out of the 1958 WC as a kid!

Don't recall if that was much on TV back then, but saw plenty of his brilliance in subsequent world cups.

The 1970 World Cup sticks long in the memory for all the right reasons.
In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"
