We had this conversation a few months ago where you admitted you had only just started following rugby around the time Botica signed.

I'm really not sure why you're insistent on re-writing history on this one. Botica was a massive, massive name at the time. RL had a huge profile amongst all rugby watchers in the 90s as well because so many ex Union stars played it.

I'm not sure who you were sitting next to at the time, but anyone with a semblence of rugby knowledge knew exactly who he was.

To answer the point Botica was a huge signning and it also the worst signning the club ever made.

Not the worst because of his quality as a player he was a class act and he did a lot for the club but the financial mess that we now find ourselves in started because we simply couldnt really afford him.

Since then we have been struggling financially.

Prior to this Roy Bergiers was Chairman and we actually made a profit ( i remember being in the AGM)

Aye, spent money that wasn't in the bank on the back of a proposal, I still can't believe the person responsible was voted back in at the egm. Sorry to dwell on it, but the worst decision in the club's history was to give hima  job then let him get on with it after the Botica fiasco.
Phil Bennet's autobiography, the chapter called "Scarlet Fever" should be required reading for all supporters.
I'll try not to mention that period in our history again....

I agree that Monty has been a massive signing for us but it is one that the management must be congratulated on capturing. Yes he had been a top player for Saints and Scotland, but a bad injury and a little loss of form opened the door and we grabbed him. It must have crossed his mind what would have happened if he had stayed as he would have revelled in the way they are playing at the moment.
Who ever it was that went after him!Thumbs Up  Could you now go for a similar out of favour beast of a second row with a massive point to prove as I genuinely believe that even with just a decent signing in this position it could make a world of difference in our forwards ability and our overall game plan. "Seek and thy shall find!"

Yes I admit that but I did hear people say it. I'm 're-writing history' as the subject of big names keeps cropping up but we aren't going to sign anyone and I'm just pointing out that we haven't been the kind of club that does go for big names. We tended to nurture average players in the past.

I agree. But you don't have to make a non-point about Botica to prove that. Honestly, it was a huge profile signing at the time.  Bigger than Teichmann, bigger than Montgomery, Marshall etc

As i said earlier SA14 i think Botica was huge at the time, i can remember me and my mates being really excited that we had signed a world class player, went to watch Llanelli play Brynaman in a pre-season, we took our seats and then all of the non playing members sat next to us including Botica, had a brief chat with him and he was a really nice guy, loved his burgers mind LOL

Top 5 kids programmes when growing up?

In no particular order. Play school, Pipkins, Rainbow, Rhubarb and Custard, Bagpuss.

Now talking about kids programmes did anyone else watch Mysterious Cities of Gold?, watched every episode then missed the last one!, gutted cos i never knew how it ended Cry.

You have to throw Dungeons and Dragons, The Littlest Hobo and Gentle Ben into the mix

Haha that brings back memories. Just looked it up and you can buy the DVD to catch the ending LOL

Remember Knightmare? Check out these goofballs from South Wales Embarrassed
