I popped down to watch Llanelli Wanderers play Whitland yesterday in Stradey and to catch up with Secretary Richard Keenan and co .I have not done community games for ages due to clashes with Scarlets and the RFC games, but delighted I went. New clubhouse over the last few years and new bar this season and new gym room built this year. Marzsno providing hot and cold catering on the field.

Very good crowd in the sun. Competitive fast moving game but with Wanderers coming away with a very good win. Only £25 a year senior season ticket as well- bargain.

Wanderers have a great set up fair play.
Envy of many.

Indeed.I would hope with the immediate Stradey Park development they would targeting for more customers as well. I even caught up with one Scarlets fan Mr Steve Hiscocks who now lives there with his new wife ! That alone will raise the wet sales ๐Ÿ˜‰

Watched Emlyn v Ammanford in the Championship (West) on Saturday.

Roasting hot day and Emlyn ran out eventual winners 41-24 ( the result is a bid misleading as Emlyn ran in 2 tries-14 points- in the last 5 mins).

Interesting for me to see a match with uncontested scrums from the outset (Ammanford couldn't put out a front row).

Ammanford thus get penalised and go down to 14 from the start, can't replace any front rower in the game, have to have 8 in a scrum (so a back),and the No 8 can't pick up directly off the back of the scrum.

All seems fair enough, but in reality teams have worked out how to best deal with those constraints. So in this Ammanford played no props ( put in back rowers as props), and put their fastest back at No 8. So effectively had 4 back rowers and a back in the scrums.

Emlyn had their normal front row out ( 2 props and a hooker) and so found that the numerical advantage was neutered by Ammanford's more mobile pack. The ref wasn't particularly quickto spot that none of the Ammanford back row were properly bound at a scrum, all flying off the scrum in to the back line pretty much on put in. It took Emlyn a while to figure out how the back field was so crowded off a set piece. To that end Ammanford scored a couple of lovely tries off scrums in their own 22 whilst Emlyn's pack were still looking up from the scrum

This is not a slight against Ammanford by the way, they just worked the problem, but it's a problem that still prevails in the game when uncontested scrums are called pre a game starting.

Eventually the extra man, and limits on subs, did impact the result, but it was an odd affair.

Thanks for that intresting assessment  ,from what appears, two quite good sides.
Moving forward, I reckon there will be more abo.ut the community game on SF.
Thanks to Reesy, its highlighted my dormant intrest in the community  game, so both he ahd I are looking to meet ahd support wanderers.
Getting in to the habit of watching sat afternoon rugby again , is a wonderful  thing. Most importantly, it does the essential,  and supports the community  game, without  which, we are buggered in Wales (or anywhere  else).
So thanks Will , let's keep the community game profile  in view.
Anyone else who would like to meet up and join me and Reesy, tye more the merrier.  A pint before or after the game, and a chat, its always great to make new friends Wink

The club I play for is one, hard to believe big village struggle to get a team together.
No game for two weeks because of injuries and lack of players we finished with only 12 for the first game of the season.

Surely its about time the WRU started asking teams if they want to be in the cup, if they dont do the draw without them, then if any teams withdraw from the cup they should have a fine or a ban of some sort from entering again in the future, if a team has a tough away trip up first they some will just withdraw

A few years ago, you would get banned from entering the cup for 2 years & lose some of your grant.
