So Gerald is stepping down "with considerable sadness". This means he doesn't really want to. So he's effectively being bullied out. A few weeks after he criticised the regime. All dissenting voices will be dealt with.
That said, this is the only time we've heard from him in a decade. |

The regions should seek to get someone on our side elected to replace Gerald, otherwise we will be even more isolated from the corridors of power

Could this free him up to step into the head honcho spot at RRW?

You're approaching 70, have done just about all there is to do in rugby, have given back in spadefuls including 9 years service on a flawed union board, you understand and voiced eloquently your genuine concerns & fears for the future if change isn't effected, only for your own Chief Exec to try to humiliate you on live radio - why would you want any more part in it?
Massive respect and thanks due to Gerald Davies - he'll leave a gaping vacuum which Lewis & co will try to fill with yet another Yes Man, and depart (together with the WRU's moral compass) with his dignity, a clear conscience and, I suspect, a very heavy heart. |

Indeed and although that was the first time we have heard Gerald criticise the WRU in public we don't know to what extent he has been trying to change and influence things more 'tactfully' from the inside.

People like Gerald dont come around often. I personally would like to see Gareth Davies take over as Chief Executive and Gerald as Chairman.Pie in the sky i know but Gareth would be ideal to do the job. Hes held the highest positions and is a proper rugby man at heart.
