We’re in serious trouble. There just isn’t anywhere near enough power in the pack to take on the huge Stormers pack. Our only hope is to get ball in play time as high as possible, keep in the game for 65-70 minutes, and then hope our better fitness can see them off. If we can’t do that then I fear it’ll be a long afternoon.

Posted By: Dai Guevara
Date Posted: 20 May 2022 at 12:35pm
Our 1-7 are a bit lightweight so we've got to try to run their heavyweights into the ground, without giving their backs the space to pick up speed and put our "defence" under pressure. Not an easy problem to solve. Dwayne, there's probably a Nobel Prize for rugby strategy in it for you if you manage to solve it.

Best 23 available, couldn’t ask for anymore.

Would’ve preferred Patchell & Daf Hughes to start.

If we’re still in at 60 I’ll back us to get the W

If only it was 3. Wyn, Ken, Samson, Halfpenny and Scott would’ve been very useful.

 Coach message NO SCRUMS!

Our pack is underpowered and too light to face this team and our bench forwards no better. Meanwhile in Ospreyalia I fancy them to win . They have a really strong team out full of internationals . Not the end of season game I would have liked ☹️

I’m really worried there’s another 50 pointer coming our way. Our front 5 in particular looks really weak. Why peel has picked Tom Price instead of Jones I’ll never know. He offers absolutely nothing to the team.

Still not replaced the Jake Ball sized lock and we shall be underpowered in the league and Europe until we sort the pack out imo

Choose any two from three,  hobson's choice really.
How many of those three would get in the other welsh regions starting pack?
One thing is certain, they will do their best.

Fair question. I think of those 3 both Jac & Morgan would get the 3rd spot for Cardiff & thats about it. More great exposure for them going in to next season.

They’ve lost the fewest games in the league this year. Therefore They are the hardest team to beat. I can’t see it. But I’ll sacrifice a pint of Guinness to the rugby gods (via my mouth) in hope we can finish a poor season on a good note.

We should have a decent lineout and.............
Anyway if we try to turn their pack by putting the ball behind them so that they spend as much time as possible going backwards, we need to make sure that we actually find touch, as we know that we do not do well when pacey backs have the space to accelerate at our "defenders"
We should be able to win our own throws, and maybe even nick one or two of theirs and the longer they spend in their own half the less damage they can do. Who knows, then if Conbeer, Cawdor or Sanjay etc can sneak in we may have half a chance.

The Bulls need a win to guarantee a Home QF, they blew us away at altitude.
Despite the last scoreline, there’s not much difference(sadly) between us and O’s, Bulls should win well.

If the Bulls can defend a rolling maul from a lineout, it will seriously cut down on the O's main try scoring option.

Correct about Jake, and this seems to have gone under the radar"!! He's sorely missed !
Together with wyn, ken, ryan, sam and blade... missing, you cannot go in to games like this , with physical opponents like the boks, so underpowered!
We still need to look for a physical second row, and a tight head, as Samson misses more games than he plays.
Its been a car crash of a season, and to been honest, I am glad its coming to an end.
Lets hope many of the injuries clear up by September, as at least we can compete on a level playing field.

To be honest, we don't merit playing in the champions cup ATM. The other competition is
also packed with decent sides, and would give Dwaine more time to build, and re-shape squad

Challenge cup it is then, that’s what happens when you keep signing mediocre players and keep giving those mediocre players along with the constantly injured players new contracts.

So unless we get at least 3 points tomorrow, the Whitehouse decisions in the Dragons game have put us in the Challenge Cup.

We put ourselves in the Challenge Cup by not properly replacing international calibre players like Ball but instead signing mediocre players and hoping they come good. Add to the fact that we keep giving new contracts to absolutely anyone and everyone says a lot. Maybe a few years in the challenge cup is what we need, at least until the contracts of these mediocre players are up and then we can finally part ways. The lack of incomings this summer says a lot, especially when we the other regions are strengthening says a lot. Dark days ahead for the club regardless what people say on here.

The number of hammerings we've taken all season probably played a small part too.

Shall we see what happens this evening and take it from there..? Not saying I expect us to win, but let’s rally behind the players, see them (hopefully) give it their best shot at see what happens? If the players are thinking the way some on this forum are then yes, it will be a long evening.

You're right of course but I'm with joni_bach on this. Regardless of what happened before, we were still in control of our destiny when we went into the Dragons game.

Of course we will get behind the team and I am pretty sure they won't be found wanting for effort. My comments & no doubt many others are based on a logical assessment of both teams. The reality is we do not compare favourably with the South African teams when it comes to power. If our front 5 read Wyn, Ryan, Samson, Sam & Fifita my outlook would not be so pessimistic. Given 50/50 decent ball tonight I would give us a good chance with the pace we have in the back 3.

It's going to be very difficult given the number of injuries to front 5 players - we'll miss Lousi, Wyn, Elias etc...
I doubt we can do it, but here's hoping...

We’ve got an excellent back row out there, and I think Shaun Evans has been picked ahead of Daf Hughes for his jackling ability, along with that I hope we see a fit and firing Macleod ready to spoil a lot of their ball, and now we know a win is what is needed I hope Costelow has his kicking boots on.

Patchell injured again, this is getting ridiculous now how unreliable his body is. That could be the difference between winning and losing here. From what I saw on the big screen I don’t think that was a yellow. I may be wrong as I haven’t seen it on the tv.

I’d rather lose fair and square than win by cheating. Maybe we shouldn’t of selected a player who’s unreliable and has a history of injury after injury. Worst bit is we have just given him a new contract.

Better than what I predicted before the game.

My gripe is that we are looking to play by flinging wild offloads. Too many of those result in a turnover. Needs to change, the best teams can recycle the ball and carry again. Tackling was better but still miles away from where it needs to be, they always were going to create opportunities.

The challenge cup is the level we’re at anyway.

Defense is easier to sort out than attack. Promising for next season hopefully. Was Patch off for another HIA?

Yeah as sad as it is i can’t help but agree. We have to change as a club and stop signing mediocre players and hope they come good. We also need to stop giving long term contracts to players who are always in the treatment room. More importantly we desperately need a proper defence coach, the amount of points we concede every match is just not good enough.

Good showing by the team, could have gone either way in the end, although we lost it was nice to see us competing with the best, bodes well for next year.

Injuries in the pack, fly halves off in second half. Close loss against the best SA side.

I think the margins between 2-10 in the league are pretty fine. We can compete! Onwards and upwards

It was a great game. Big heart from the boys no complaints from me.

Rest and rebuild time. Remember it’s a game!

Good to see more cohesion and heart on display than we might usually have seen this season.

Good to see that with even more folk missing than usual, we can still say the above.

Await the Challenge Cup draw and the potential trips.

Just hope the QFs have a bit of variety about them and that the Stormers do fill the 2nd spot in the table. At present, Leinster’s 24th to 46th best fit players are losing 18-22 to Munster and the latter have scored 3 tries.

Quick update it’s 25-22 with a penalty try and yellow card to Scannell the hooker.
