Isn't the issue with the 80% that it's a drop in salary compared to what the players are currently on, and the bonus, if earned, brings it back up to what the players are currently on? I might be completely wrong, but pretty sure I've read that somewhere?

Just went back and read this. If that's the case that puts a different light on things.

My understanding is that players are going to be expected to take a 30% cut. Lets take the top level band of British Lion which was at £400K tops that will become £280K. That £280k is made up of £233K guaranteed but the balance is performance related.

“We’ll do it if all the WRU staff do it too” might be a response that will stir more issues and get the idea dropped.

Although nothing to do with averting the current strike threat and getting a quick solution, are the executives of the WRU acting beyond their powers and responsibilities by having invested in the hotel? If so, how good is the Directors & Officers insurance cover and any other personal liability protection? Opinion from a corporate legal eagle would be most interesting.

Christ, that's even worse than I originally thought then Shocked So, even if players earn their bonus, they're still going to be 30% worse off! Shocked

We all work for money, it doesn't matter if your a craftsman, customer service voice, farrier, waiter, electrical linesman dangling 200 foot in the air, steel worker, miner, doctor, nurse, rugby player ....every single one of us do it to live and survive.

It's one of the biggest shocks in life at 16 ....you have to work now and earn your living, Mammy and Daddy don't do it anymore.  Some of us will earn substantial sums , majority of us won't and just survive , it will never change and the root of all evil, that word money rules the roost, you don't survive without it.

With that in mind why would anyone expect a paycut and expect the same outcome. It don't work. I've been with companies that offer huge incentives...ridiculous sums of money not to look for other employment while the place your in is closing down in 2 months time.

I can inform you from experience...shove that....knowing you have a future in 3 months time is far far better on your mental well being than incentives or bonuses.  Extras never made me work harder, but job security and doing my bit to make it succeed does.

I get it with the players ...the WRU are disgraceful...I genuinely hope for once the players strike and put that stake in the ground and let the WRU and World rugby ...you need to seriously look after the biggest assets in any business......your people...your players whoever they are.
We all work for money. As much as we believe we are worth. Because we are.

Approaching 4.30 on the afternoon of the meeting of all pro players and no announcement.

Is that good or bad news?

PRB 'Town Hall' meeting with players (~80 reportedly in attendance) started at 3.30pm, expected to take 'up to 90 minutes' - I suspect it may take a little longer, if it's going positively.

Players may be offered a choice between 80/20 and all guaranteed, but this will be capped at 90% of full potential amount. Together with reduction (but not removal) of 60-cap rule (to 20-25), and a commitment that contracts can be signed immediately, it may be that strike action can be averted for this weekend. Now completely in players' hands...

If only 80 in Attendnce then that is a disappointing number. Even allowing for the fact that overseas players, and English based players may not be there, I'd have thought that there'd have been a bigger turnout than that.

What a shambles. Thousands of pounds lost in bars and restaurants too and people out of pocket who have booked hotels.

As for working with a bonus incentive, speaking from experience it's the main thing on everyone's mind to increase their performance.

It's more of time out than an end game right now.

For sure there's a resolve in the player community.

Meeting is over now agreement last ditch attempt by WRU and Sheriff and someone else to know if game is on Saturday.

I hope they strike and make a stand.
