Cue sighs of relief in the finance director and all at the top of the body.

Still plenty of big hurdles to overcome, though. Much hard work ahead to undo the mighty mis-management of at least one decade, probably more.

So now this vote is passed when will they announce the new board? Is there a timeline to have it do one by?

I may have missed it during our rugby highs but has the funding budget been decided?

Not yet, as far as I’m aware.  But now that the WRU have got through these changes in the constitution (something I wasn’t confident about) I’m sure that the funding issues will be resolved extremely quickly - as the funding side of it really was embarrassing (player’s threats to strike during the 6 nations).
A word of praise for Ieuan Evans (a try legend of our wonderful club), he took on the mantle of chairman of the WRU - an multimillion pound a year organisation run by a bunch of amateurs, with a constitution which allowed the chairman/women (not many a presume due to the misogynistic attitudes of many) and of Nigel Walker as dealt with the fallout of the BBC documentary (over the above issues) and dragged the WRU out of the dinosaur ages and hopefully into the 21st century.
And now, as a result of his hard work, has to stand aside and leave someone else take the reigns.

Now the real work can begin. Hopefully, by Dec 31st (NW's timescale), there will be an appropriately skilled, independent Chair in place, an approrpriateley qualified CEO (sorry Nigel but now is not the time for a 'thank you' appointment) in place and a more diverse and better qualified board.

Then a strategy to develop EVERY part of the game in Wales to bring it fully into the professional era is the absolute priority.
What's going on?

I think I read that Ieuan plans to step down when a couple of the changes at the top have been carried out.

If so, good on him. Others who’ve seen the coverage will be able to give the greater detail.

New board will be in place for December.
This doesn't change our funding deal, because it doesn't immediately change income or WRU debt levels.

However - the deal which we may have signed or be about to sign is much better than the one leaked to the papers by the Ospreys in January.

What will change is the likelihood of the board to employ small minded village idiots. It will also make it more likely that high calibre individuals will apply for the CEO job, knowing that they don't have to keep Dai from Narberth RFC on board.

So the good news is that this makes our long term future much more likely. The bad news is that the next 2 years are going to be very lean indeed, unless there is a significant financial upturn somewhere, or unless we drop to 3 teams.
We're still still here, but I wish we were in an Anglo-Welsh

Or a sort of all seeing futuristic eye symbol like a Crystal ball in the shape of a Dragon or a Merlin type figure holding an Oracle eye in his hands 😉 🤩

Well done and thanks to everyone who got involved with getting the WRU governance changes voted through. ClapClapClap

Ultimately, it was an overwhelming groundswell of public opinion that became irresistible - the need for change became inarguable, but 97.2% is still one hell of a landslide.

Now the hard work of transformation can finally begin - financial & structural constraints will not make this an easy task, but at least the process can now start - the WRU is still going to need continued support & encouragement from all levels of the game, but it will (at last) have professional leadership and structures before too long. Welcome to the 21st Century - let's go! Thumbs Up

Excellent news perhaps the rugby fraternity have woken up.

It's got to be good news hasn't it? Ieuan is to be admired for his 'turkey voting for Christmas' effort - he did a great job as a figurehead to get this change done, but knows the job needs someone with more business experience to carry on.

I daresay the details may need to be revisited in future, but at least it seems as if there'll be a bunch of people who can be held responsible if things go wrong. With any luck, though, it'll be onward and upward... We'll see.
