Scott Barrett free to play the opening match of the World Cup after the Disciplinary Commission decided he didn’t need a suspension………

Just seen the tackle, certainly head high, minimum of yellow, probably a red.
At this rate England will have to announce a completely new squad for the World Cup.
It’s ironic that the RFU are looking at introducing new legislation this season around the tackle height (grassroots level), but they seem to have given up on their elite players adhering to any changes.

A little bit sad to see regions trying to hype up the signing or re-signing of players lately. Ray Lee-Lo and Harry Millard at Cardiff, Ethan Lewis at the Ospreys.

Trying their best to build a positive story around it is commendable, and with respect to the players mentioned it's really more about what's knocking about in the available/ affordable pot, and that could 'do a job'.

I'd love to follow the mantra of letting young guys have a go, but the reality is you can't do that from 1-23 when you go to SA or Ireland this days.

Welsh regional rugby is in for a tough time this year. I think we may fare better than the others, but won't be in the hunt for the play offs.

I think we could surprise a few this year challenge cup final and a loss to Leinster in final of league despite scoring winning try in last minute to win game, Brian Mcneice sees a forward pass in middle if a rolling maul and calls it from stands to deny us.

She asks why i still can't answer. I guess its in the blood.

I agree with Wil - the general outcome is going to be bleak. i cannot see any Welsh region getting anywhere near the top 8. Europe will be a lottery totally down to availability of the best 23. Cardiff are in for a very rude awakening in the Champions Cup.

In fairness, given the lack of finance, the Scarlets have put together a decent squad with a sensible mix of experience and youth - as usual injuries could decide prospects.

The General outcome is going to be the unknown and if that doesn't excite anyone why bother breathing.

There are two oak doors on opposite sides of a room.

One oak door has clear panels which clearly show what's on the other side .
You can see green fields and blue skies  families playing, dogs chasing balls, the picture is enthralling and captivating and there's a kind looking gentleman in a smart suit ushering you to walk through.....

On the other side the oak is weathered but still as strong as any oak door, there are no glass panes to show what's on the other side.
No smart kind gentleman calling or waving....its just a door with nothing.

99% of people will walk towards the door with the clear glass because they can see what's on the other side ......they want to see where they are going .

The unknown is a scary place, a frightening place of what if etc etc....

And yet the moral of this.....the solid door was the opening to heaven....

Sometimes a leap of faith and a dive into the unknown will give things you never thought possible.

And just like the Scarlets....just now and again they run towards that solid door the unknown.

I will take that..... you cannot underestimate the strength of the human desire and spirit.....let's roll.

In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"

"All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"

OSPREYS ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF TOBY FRICKER

Rugby

The Ospreys are pleased to announce the signing of winger, Toby Fricker.

Fricker, has spent several seasons at the Bristol Bears. During his time at the club he made 32 appearances and scored nine domestic tries, with three in Europe.

The Welsh-qualified flyer was named as the Welsh Premiership newcomer of the year in 2018, during his time with Ebbw Vale. He has also represented Wales Sevens and started for the Barbarians in their game against Samoa back in August.

Fricker is qualified to play for Wales through his father who is from Builth Wells.

Speaking on the move, Fricker said:

“It’s great to be playing my rugby in Wales again. My last spell went really well so I’m happy to be back here, especially for the Ospreys.

“I learnt a lot during my time in Bristol and I’m looking forward to representing the Ospreys badge in the BKT URC and Challenge Cup this year.”

Head Coach for the Ospreys, Toby Booth, said:

“With Toby, we know that we’ve signed an abrasive winger that isn’t afraid to use his physical prowess. He’s a player that knows where the try line is, and that can only be a good thing for us.

“He’s put his hand up in some crucial moments for Bristol and we’re hoping he can do that for us this season.”

From the text, it doesn’t appear to be a big name signing but your headline font size wishes to disagree Wink

Only the Top 8 from the will qualify for the Champions Cup, rather than every nation guaranteed a spot.

The 4 Welsh Regions will struggle for a top 8 spot this season sadly but let’s hope we can be very competitive at least with the Welsh derbies

A crutch removed from the WRU’s ability to boast welsh clubs in that event each year.

Now it’s dog eat dog and survival of the fittest. That’s the governing body as well as playing aspects.
