Just found this on Google

At its most basic, the term expatriate describes someone who does not live in their own country, and could therefore be used to describe migrants, asylum seekers, guest workers and other groups

an ex pat is ex native of that country hence why brits living abroad are desricbed as ex pats by brtitish sources. No doubt foreign nationals living here are referred to as ex pats in their prevuous home nation, itโ€™s pretty basic stuff. Despite the mental gymnastics on here trying to cloud the matter no names mentioned but yes i do mean you oracleWink

IDP's are not a new phenomenon, I'm the son of one in fact, but there are some 70+m around the world these days, far more than at any other time.

Governments battle to differentiate between those IDP's and others looking for a better life of course.

I've yet to see an absolute success in integrating IDP's in to society, but there is a common need of an enabling environment for it to have a chance.

Jordan accepting hundreds of thousands of Syrian IDP's resulted in the country getting various duty benefits from the US and EU as a 'reward'. However the surge of Food Security and general aid dissipated after a couple of years and now 80% of those IDP's live below the poverty line, and in a country that doesn't have the economy to support them.

Kakuma and the neighboring Kalobeyi refugee camps in Kenya (or integrated settlements as they are now known) has some 250,000 residents, all from Sudan, Ethiopia, DRC, Somalia, Eritrea etc. The camp has just passed it's 30th anniversary. It is, by all any other description, a city.
Funding has continued with 128 aid agencies working there. There are schools, hospitals, sport complexes, small factories, solar farms etc etc.

The concern is that the camp is in the Turkana region of Kenya...without boring you it's the poorest region in the country, and it's citizens have none of what is found in the camps.

The enabling environment, in my mind, is based around the concept of 'Trade not Aid'. To integrate IDP's is never going to be easy, but having purpose and a clear contribution to society is certainly part of it.

PS I'm a guest in any country I live, work in, or visit (apart from wales).

SNP support has increased by over 15 % has it's seen as an attack on independence ....When independence has been achieved the support may fall but at present the desire by the Scottish for independence totally outweighs any other political viewpoint ....This was debated on James O'Brian on LBC yesterday ..

So so jealous

I do not claim to know the basis of the thread on North Korea enjoyed by some but there is an interesting article published by the BBC on the situation experienced by 3 North Koreans in NK since lockdown in 2020. Pretty grim reading.
