With the year drawing to a close, what in peoples opinons has been the Top 5 Records of the year?

My Top 5 (in no particular order) -

Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die...But You Will
The Strokes - Angles
The Vaccines - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Death Cab For Cutie - Codes & Keys

hard to leave out ryan adams, manchester orchestra, kasabian, Tom Waits, Beastie Boys, PJ Harvey and even Blink182 but there we go. the chosen 5 were the stand outs for me, but these artists albums could have made the list as well.

These are the new albums I've listened to most. 2010 was a better year I think:

Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys
Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care. Take Care
This will destroy you - Tunnel Blanket
Talons - Commemorations
Vigri - Pink Boats

.

No it's not as good as either of those 2. The earth.....was the first of theirs I heard. It is an astonishing piece of work.

I went to see them last week (with another forum member I may add). I am still bouncing, and completely in awe at the sounds they craft, their musicianship and all round inspiration.

Probably my favourite band at the moment.

ears still ringing i bet!!! i have never been able to go and see them live. can imagine that they'd put a similar show to Mogwai and possibly 65daysofstatic (who are amazingly loud!) Explosions are a fine band, brilliant musicians. will have to look for that vinyl when in spillers next.

At the end one of the guitarists laid down his guitar on the stage and proceeded to play e-bow on it (different notes and strings too) whilst banging a tambourine on the stage with his other hand to the drumemrs beat.

I was loving it.

e-bow is easy! Although trickier on a guitar with double humbuckers.

Not bad for a compilation album isit? :P

Truckers of Husk - Accelerated Learning
Death Cab - Codes & Keys
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Panda Bear - Tomboy
Exit_International - Black Junk

For some reason, 2011 has been the year of the EP for me. I've been listening to 2x Skrillex EP's, 2x Islet, 2x Gallops and Future of the Left's Polymers Are Forever.

I expect you know that the group got their name from a song by 60s comedy combo "The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band"?

I used to have this tune on a reel-to-reel tape recorder - copied illegally - a long ago forerunner to Napster and more recent systems like Bit Torrent - which rather dates/ages me!

I listened to this song the other day just because of this fact.

Have not got black junk yet but the sex w/ strangers ep was immense. Scott is letting me know when the black junk album is coming out on vinyl, he wants it done ASAP for the vinyl junkies!

Theres my problem, I have 2 humbuckers. My next guitar only has the one so hopefully I can play it with ease on that!

You must have spoken to him more recent than I have because it was not looking good for Vinyl. I can lend you the CD if you want it?
