Stephen Jones in the Sunday Times isn't an advocate of expanding the Pro 14, in fact he advises reverting to a Pro 12, free of all SA teams and suggests that the league should invest in London Scottish to provide a London window.
The South Africans meanwhile should create a 'souped up, modernised Currie Cup' and have a play off series between the two leagues.
He goes on 'The great weakness (of the Pro 14) ....has been the abject performances of the Welsh regions. At least two of those - Dragons and Ospreys - appear to be reviving somewhat.' He then asserts that the Pro 14 will be validated 'only when  the Irish teams, the true quality, are forced by the strength of all the others to field their top players.'

Possibly, as the song says, "the only way is up"!
When you've reached rock bottom that is.
I hope they are on the way up, essential for the well-being of Welsh rugby. It's still compulsory that we thrash them though.

Stephen Jones of the English Sunday Times dislikes anything or any league which may threaten the English Premiership - he knows which side his bread is buttered.

He's also the most opinionated, cliquey reporter in the game, and thinks that all should bow down before his views, even if they're full of holes. Bringing in the SA SuperRugby outfits will force the Irish provinces to up their game and involve their stars more regularly (Leinster provide the biggest barrier to English clubs winning the Champions Cup, for context), yet he argues against increasing the level of competition in the PRO14/16/18. Confused

His words are seldom worth the paper they're printed on, but he's liable to block anyone on Twitter who disagrees with him. I just hope Scarletnut doesn't go this way when he's a Big Time Charlie. LOL
