about 70 min into today's game all blacks won a line out, formed the pack into a phalanx and rolled forwards ball in hand all correctly bound.  Boks backed off didn't make contact so the Blacks were rolling on up the field ten, fifteen yards  or so without opposition.
Now, if there's no contact with the opposition, the ref should have blown up for offside - pen to the Boks shouldn't he?   But he didn't.

Isn't it only when they touch an opposing player that they're blocking.

more bemused than ever - I thought the only time you can roll forward as a pack with the ball in your possession but not held by the leading man in the pack, was if you were pushing back the opposition.  Just to have men in front of the ball carrier and no contact with the opposing side is illegal isn't it?

I think the off side rules only applies from a lineout...It has to be timed perfectly and the ref must see it....A real big gamble for the defending side to do...especially if you are being reffed by a magners league tosser

As long as the ball carrier does NOT detatch, all are kept on-side as it originated from a set piece, the Kiwi's looked to start a rolling maul, but the Boks didn't commit so no maul formed. It bemused me as (like the French did one year) as no maul has been set up, there is NO offside line, so one of the Boks could have gone around the back & ripped the ball away legally !
Herman Tours ... Still the best way to travel !

Still not getting this.  Should the ref have blown up against the ABs for blocking as no maul formed?
