sheedy the runner, had acres of space to have run 20 more yards and passed before someone could have launched a long range kick

I'm still struggling with the result. I do give credit to France to come back from 10 pts and 1 man down in 10 minutes and the pressure they put on was intense and relentless, so you can see why we buckled. Even so I really thought we had it at the end and it was gutting the way we lost. So many slight things in that last 10 mins and together it all cost us.

Also, not very impressed with the French coach's comments on the red:

Galthie disagreed with the decision.

"If you watch the Wales players, it feels like they specialise in making sure opponents get red cards," he said.

"Their body language is quite clear, I hope the referees take that into consideration. I don't think he deserves a sanction.

"If you watch the video there is clearly no contact, or if there is it's clearly very limited. It's absolutely not voluntary.

"I believe we need to share this, I don't see why he should be sanctioned."

There is truth in that Wales do indeed play the ref well and you often see AWJ gesturing to what he considers an offence, plus a couple of other players have been known to exaggerate, but come on that was eye contact. There was luck against England sure, but it's not really luck catching up with us as seems to be a view out there. If other teams players take illegal shots or get caught gouging then how is it good luck for Wales the ref sending them off?

Abuse on social media of players been reported. It's disgusting. I know we debate strengths and weaknesses, good game bad, but nothing like the examples the WRU have provided of the abuse players get on SM. I know we're upset but jeez so are the players.

The one thing I took away from Saturday night was that we are capable of being there at the business end of the World Cup and winning it.

If we can play as we have and maintain that level, we have a huge chance.

Yep.

On the other hand, you can argue that those are the exact type of games you need to win to win a world cup. We always get edged out in close affairs, often losing late. This result just emphases that.

Fundamentally we will have learnt more from that loss that we would have if we’d won with that Penalty try.

But I’d still rather a grand slam lol

Opportunities like that come round once every 4 years, hate to see them go begging when we had ample chances to kill the game

If I was pivac instead of just saying lets move on....Id get the squad together and go through the last 20 minutes again in those specific situations and discuss each of them 1 by 1 and discuss with the players what they were thinking at those moments and what their options were. I relaly do think that could be a massive learning experience if they do that. Its  not that easy to know what to do in these situations under such extreme pressure. The players felt it but the ref did too. What would they do next time ? how what they deal with the unrelenting french pressure? how would hill have tried to avoid conceding the last penalty...Liams card, would he have done much differently? even if he did come through the gate and was carded unfairly could he have made his action less obvious and less of an eats target for a card...what would sheedy have done? could he have run further and passed or run further and kicked? did faletau have other options? what about pivacs choices? did we as a team take our foot off the gas and sit back? I know its painful but if we brush it under the carpet and just move on, we run the risk of not learning and thus repeating such agonies in future.

exacly, no one is more upset than the players. At least we could change the channels when its over. The pain for these players must have run deep. I hope they find a way to handle it and take massive pride in their achievements and performance. It was not only the game of the championship, it was 1 of the greatest games of all time and by far the best sporting Ive occasion witnessed this year in any sport.

watched the highlights again and can't help but feel if we had knocked on and taken the scrum it would have eaten up the clock, however if we could all use hindsight i would have had a luvky 15 up and 6 numbers on the lottery on saturday.

I agree, just a little fumble or something from the 9.

Trying to eat up two minutes by one out forward pods carrying is always fraught with danger when you are around halfway. Sealing off is what the ref is constantly looking for. An alternative play would have been to box kick into their 22 chase & rely on your defence. It would have been some effort for France to go 70-80 metres.

You can bet NZ would. Why? Because they want to be the best.

That defeat was absolutely heartbreaking... so near, yet so far.

So many positives, though - it was the best game of the tournament, between the best two teams. That display will shut up those who claimed that Wales were 'lucky' to be in a position to play for the grand slam - or should, anyway.

Ref decisions affected both teams, but us more than them towards the end... the one that rankles most with me, though, was when Fickou 'Hollywooded' a high tackle, the ref was conned, refused to check with the TMO - and it cost us 3 points. It's all the worse when COVID super-spreader and clown Galthie has the cheek to suggest that Wyn somehow attacked their man's fingers with his eye! FFS! I hope he gets fined.

In truth, we had much the better of the first half, and should never have turned around level - we should have had a healthy lead by then.

A great performance, but the subs weren't quite of the standard required to finish it off. The boys deserve the championship - hope the Scots can deny France a 20-point win.
“You cannot reason a man out of what he never reasoned himself into.” (Jonathan Swift)

Every player should come out with credit from this tournament but how good were our Wyn & Ken? They were superb & immense!! Josh Navidi was so good too!! Adam Beard also came of age too. There will be a hell of a scramble in a couple of years when LRZ's contract is up.

For me I was heartened to see us scoring by picking & going, we haven't really done well doing that & everytime France scored we came roaring back. I think the players have bought into what the coaches are trying to do & our strike runners looked red hot!! At one point you had LRZ hitting the line so fast & with such conviction I thought it was North!

If the summer tour goes ahead, we can have a look at some youngsters, hopefully Johnny Williams will get some time too. Then back to the Autumn Internationals which we will surely use in a different way to last year.

It's still a mixture of pride, tears and questions today. Got to learn from this, address the issues that went wrong and improve ourselves. Matt Dawson mentions it will "haunt Wales for years" and also refers back to his experience of England being denied a Grand Slam in 1999. England improved themselves and of course ended up winning the World Cup four years later. Even thinking back to how they used Mike Catt in that quarter against us you knew they had learnt how to make sure they closed out games or didn't get into the same situation in the first place. You can either just dwell in despair about the could have beens or let it motivate you. We have done so well in this tournament and won 2 out of 3 of the really close games plus put a poor England to bed in a record win, albeit assisted by two very fortunate try decisions, but are not the finished article yet. I'm still absolutely gutted about saturday but we can still win the championship.
