QUINS ADD SUPER SIX

10:30 - 07 June 2007

Carmarthen Quins have signed up six players to bolster their division one west campaign, with more in the pipeline. After missing out on promotion last season to the Principality Welsh Premiership, Quins have been busy scouring the area for player they believe will add quality and experience to their current squad.

In come Aberavon scrum-half Daniel Hawkins and centre David Hawkins while back-rower Steve Phillips also joins from the Talbot Athletic Ground.

Wing Daniel Gravell will add power to the Quins ranks after he made the switch from Llanelli and he is joined by fellow winger Josh Freeman from Cardiff.

To complete the six, tight-head prop Kevin Jones will bolster the pack following his move from Bridgend.

Quins team manager Steffan Thomas believes these new faces and a couple of extra additions could push the club towards their target of premiership rugby.

"At the end of last season our squad was too small and we realised we needed some extra depth," he said. "The players we have brought in have the premiership quality and experience we need to get us there.

"Last season we gave Bonymaen a good run for the title but this year it will be a lot closer.

"We have had verbal agreements from three or four more premiership players but we need to get the paperwork sorted."

he not past it, played almost every game for bridgend last year,, they were desperate to keep hold of him. I heard he would have come back to the quins if they had got promoted, big loss there,  a far better player that the centres signed in Paul Morgan and Dai Hawkins. Simmo kept paul morgan out at bridgend last season and hawkins couldnt get into the avon squad much i dont think.

May do a job in division one though, i see dave tiueti the old neath centre has been signed by Tonmawr - they could be dark horses next season given that they got some money behind them

I've been told by a bloke who works in Casle Hywel that Dai H and Paul M are just two of five centres with premiership experience in the squad this year.

Not sure who onlyonedaddo is but there is only one and thats me, 006 and a half, i hope your not insinuating that I cheated at any time last season, I called it as I saw it every time, cant help it not everyone agreed but they couldnt keep up with play anyway so didnt know what they were talking about.

Looking forward to the new season, sounds like we have a real chance to get back where we belong.
