Not sure where this post fits best, but here goes anyway.  Was anyone else on here bored enough yesterday to watch the women’s marathon?!  It was another example yesterday of why I dislike the British media so much. (Especially the BBC's sporting provision - I'm sure one of the B's stands for 'bias')

Don’t get me wrong – I have the greatest respect for Paula Radcliffe, and was gutted when she had to drop out of the race with 3 miles to go.
But the bitter and twisted commentary thereafter made my blood boil. They showed total lack of respect for the achievements of the other athletes. After Paula dropped out comments included:

“This isn’t a race to find the best marathon athlete in the world; it’s who’s the best marathon runner in Athens on a hot summer afternoon”.

“Whoever wins this race, Paula knows that she’s a better athlete than them”. (Not yesterday she wasn’t!)

“These girls wouldn’t get near to Paula under other conditions” (That’s not the point!!)

“She (Japanese winner) may have the gold medal, but Paula’s still got the world record”. (They didn’t add that she set it in London on a mild spring day – not in 100 degree heat!)

There were others but I can’t remember them all! Get over it! On the day, in those conditions, sadly, she just was not good enough to win a medal. I don’t pay my TV licence to listen to cr*p like this.

By the way, congratulations to Tracey Morris (from North Wales) who came 29th – the commentators didn’t congratulate her so I thought I would!

Yeah i do agree with those sentiments. although i am utterly fed up of writing about it. They will never change. I used to get so angry about it, but now I just smile. I feel devastated for her, but I think Brendan Foster put his friendship with Radclffe before his commentary duties yesterday. However, they did say credit where credits due at the end to the Japanese girl.

That's what I thought at first - but then I thought that it was more to do with the lack of impartiality shown by our state broadcaster rather than the actual sport.

Correct, I believe this is in the right topic.

The grip is how the broadcasters treat other British sportspersons once the top seed is dismissed, etc.
