If we all can tear ourselves  away from our thoughts on the forthcoming weekend (difficult  ), just thought I would introduce  this topic , for some light relief, as the emotion is building in all of us in anticipation.
For those interested,  log on to BBC sports,  Ruby page, and there is a wonderful  article  on Bill, one of the finest commentators on our sport of rugby, or indeed any sport.
The BMF( Bill McCartney Foundation), is re-creating  his chaotic study, for the Hawick museum,  and have gone through a huge amount of his research,  all stored in boxes. This exhibition  is to mark Bill's centenary  in October (he died in 2010)

We mustn't forget, that this man was an 'amateur ' for a large part of his career, as he worked based a schoolteacher.  When I say
'amateur ', I am of course referring  to his employment  status,  in all other ways Bill was the complete  professional.  All his research, was done in days before  Google, meticulously  done.
Apart from that, Bill McLaren had the complete art of combining an intimate knowledge  of the game , with a huge dollop,of humour..
His description  of the former Scottish captain Peter Brown 's 'round the corner' kicking style, when he would place the ball, turn his back before returning  to kick, had me in stitchesLOL !
Who can  forget his "And they will be dancing in the streets of Felinfoel, as Phil Bennett  scores again for Wales"!
Bill McLaren was a legend,  a proud Scotsman, but loved the world over.
We miss him ,but luckily  have examples of his genius,  to inspire  up an-and coming broadcasters and journalists.
He was certainly  a 'one off ', in a different  era of sport.
Do'nt think Bill would be comfortable,  with the current  one
I stood yer on tanner bank
