ScarletHeart wrote "Hey SM. Bit of a child topic question if you like but say Red 10 kicks a penalty and it was clarly going over but 5 metres before it got to the posts a seagul got in the way and the ball hit the seagul and both fall to the ground. So that the ball is still 5 meteres away from the posts and also there is an injured and dangerous bird on the pitch. Will the 3 points be given? Can the opposition players run and pick up the ball and continue or will the game be stopped until the bird is taken off the field and if so what will happen next? Well you didnt expect me to ask you a sensible question now did you? Well for want of a better answer, the police always seem to deal with "birds" on the pitch........... Remember Erica Roe at Twickenham. I can't answer this one sober so, I'm going to have to think on this one !!Hmmmmmmmmm.............. Edited by scarletman |

I reckon that the ref would get rid of the bird and get the kicker to take the kick again.

I'm not going to answer this yet as although the IRB do not have a specific ruling on this, the lawbook would be applied as for a teaser I posed earlier today, which is for you lot to work out for at least 24 hours

I would say the penalty stands as a miss and ref stops play to clear up leftovers of bird, and restarts with defensive scrum? |

In the absence of a specific rule on this incident, on consultation with some other Referees, we would probably apply the same rule as .... http://www.scarletfever.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10144& amp; amp;PN=1 IRB Rule 6.A.11 I.e the referee would assess what would of happened if the ball had not been impeded by the seagull. or.... If the home side have good Grub & do not resrtict the normal 2 pints rule...... Home decision..... & conversely, if the Grub is Cr*P & the beer lousy, thr ref's room cold with no Tea / Coffee / Biscuits..... Away team get decision WIZ always make sure you look after the ref..... I assure you it counts Edited by scarletman |
