Quinsboy, Llanelli RFc I believe will be playing next to the new stadium where the running track/500 seat stand is. Although my main point still applies. If the council are supplying spanking new facilities for the semi pro side, then surely to instill an equal playing field (pun not intended!) the other Carms feeder clubs should be seen to be treated on an equal footing. Otherwise this scenario is/will give credence to the much popular conception that the regional side only has one feeder/junior club. If the set up down Stradey are serious about their apparant grasping of the regional concept which includes the much ignored feeder system (imo) then shouldn't the Llanelli RFC side be looking for it's own means of self financing and sorting out it's own playing venue? It seems to me that the council have fully included Llaneli RFC in the whole new Scarlets development without a thought for the other alledged associated feeder clubs. I understand that the purchase of Stradey affects the regional and the semi pro side and that provisions should be made for the semi pro side, but come on county council, what's good for one....... I can only assume that Llanelli RFC will be paying rent funded by gate/match day income and wru funding, or will it be assisted by the regional set up? Needs to be clarified otherwise Quins/Dovery could have good cause to claim unfair treatment by the council/Scarlets. Not a dig at Llanelli RFC by the way, just trying to ensure a level playing field as i'm prob one (imo) of a dying breed who really believed that the feeder system is a good one and worth pursuing and that the Scarlets at the time were genuinely interested in the idea. Why aren't the council leaving Llanelli RFC down Stradey anyway? they only need one stand and the social club really don't they? still leaves plenty of room for houses and the original covenent re:use for sports/leisure only would still be honoured (to a degree). There'd also still be a Stradey Park. Sorry, went off topic in the last bit! but as the move is huge it does have a place in almost all aspects of debate! Edited by no.6 |

And Ceiron Thomas and Gavin Evans. Quinsboy. It's a known fact that the clubs down west Whitland, Narberth and Quins pay huge amounts of money for very limited success. Quins have been paying huge amount of money for the best part of 10 years trying to gain sucess. In fairness the quins have a good young system so why not use it fully. Also i have to agree that Narberth are not affraid to spill the cash and yet again for very limited success. |

Maybe, but I've answered your question on why G Y P P O let 2 youth players go and signed external half backs. we needed 2 experienced players who could bring something to the club other than just youth..... |

G A Plum: Whitland and Narberth may pay big bucks but as a member of Carmarthen Quins who goes to the AGM's I know that we do not pay players huge amounts of money, as the balance sheets show year on year We operate within a budget using the funding derived from the WRU, more often than not less than the amount we receive. We do use our system fully as we have 4 or 5 players from last years youth side actually playing week in week out for Whitland at present. Salmidach: In your last comment nonsense absolute nonsense. Clive Stuart Smith is last years England Under 21's Scrum half signed instead fo Wayne who was the Welsh under 21 scrum half that happened to win their version of the Grand Slam. Mike Hercus - are you watching different games to me on the tv? What has he brought to the Scarlets? IMO for an international outside half he has brought nothing, he wasnt even first choice in Sale last year!!! No6 cant ault your points at all. |

Mike Hercus has played games for Sale though and is a full international and apart from his kicking at goal is a good O/H, he gets the back line moving and has good all round skills. I've seen every game this season, either on the box or live and in all the games that Hercus has played he hasn't been found wanting (apart from his goal kicking). Stuart-Smith is as you say England U21 scrum half and just because Wayne won the grand slam with Wales doesn't make him a better player because of that alone. Look at Howley, best S/H for years, but won nothing, does this mean that Dawson was better than him.. flawed reasoning there Quins Boy.. at the end of the day it is the opinion of one man that counts and G Y P P O decided that Stuart-Smith and Hercus had more to offer than Wayne Evans and Aled Thomas. |

Well things must have changed in the recent seasons then Quinsboy, because they used to shell out money as if it wa nobady's business! Paul arnold is obviously playing for his health isnt he!!! And no Hurcus wasn't 1st choice outside for Sale because Charlie Hodgson was there!! Charlie's one of the best outside halfs in the northen Hemisphere so suerly you can work it out yourself why he came down to stradey.............to have regular 1st team rugby! Heard that Craig Evans had a nightmare game last weekend.......shame i expect great things from him! |

Unfortunately I missed last weeks game so cannot comment on whether Craig had a mare or not. Believe it or not Arnie probably is playing for his health, yes he does get paid but not an obscene amount of money. The guy is probably one of the fittest in the squad, in June of this year he travelled to Austria to take part in an Iron Man contest! WHich he completed in 12 hours!! |
