Can’t wait to see him in Scarlet

Callum caps GB 7s debut with two tries in Singapore

On the big stage in Singapore, Academy flyer Callum Woolley made his Great Britain 7s debut in the third round of the HSBC SVNS Series.

The 20-year-old from Cardigan started against South Africa during the Saturday pool stages, then touched down in the play-off matches against Australia and Argentina on Sunday.

Well done Callum. Keep at it.

Another player who looks like he would fit very well into out squad hes a little different in that he is a big lad. Mee is tall but quite skinny Woolley looks a stronger runner.

He’s got a good try scoring record.

He’d never flown before his trial in Scotland and now he’s racking air miles faster than pilot!! Nice lad as well

This could be a great experience for him. I do hope he doesn’t become a fixture on the 7s circuit though as it may hinder his development as a XVs player. They are very different games.

I fully agree. I want to see him playing SRC and having a crack at the Scarlets.

7s should be a great way to get experience but I think players get labelled as just a 7s player. Luke Morgan was a World Class 7s player but took a long time to get with the Ospreys.

I’d say do a few tournaments to get the experience then concentrate on 15s as there is not a lot of money in 7s.

Let’s be honest we are spoilt for backs coming through.

Hopefully we can bring local backs through and spend our money on beefy forwards.

He was in the running for a call up with Scarlets last week when the call came in.

This is GBR 7's (not Wales--where it was often guys that could be 'spared' that were released), so a lot more prestige ( he's the only Welsh guy).

I can also see how it will help his game, particularly passing and defence. They are work ons.

The 7s circuit for a season hasn't done the likes of Tom Rogers any harm either.

Callum is generally recognised as the fastest guy in the Scarlets squad now...

He looked superb for Quins when I saw him. Big frame on him, not North sized but broader than Mee. Really looked to have something special.

I hope the experience was beneficial for him, and that we see more of him!

Secret is out well & truly now. There are some sharp lads in that squad so thats exciting when you add in the boys size & mentality. He sounds like someone who should be given a run end of season.

My understanding is that players are released if they are on Academy contract as opposed to a senior plus they head coach has to approve.
As mentioned he’s one of the fastest boys in rugby not just scarlets.

To temper expectations, he's late to the game of rugby and although blessed with size, pace and power he needs game time at SRC this season, maybe a quick cameo in the last game or two with the Scarlets.

Iori Badham is (quite rightly) ahead of him in the academy pecking order for wings.

Iori looks sharp too. Callum needs time to develop, and looks like he’s being allowed it. I’ve enjoyed watching him for Quins!
