As I mentioned, it ultimately comes down to survival, and I'd very much like the Os to survive with us. But certainly not at our expense, and clearly there will be only one West team moving forward.
Rumour is Cardiff and Y11 will be done next week. Let's see. |
Are you aware whether the WRU and Scarlets have been actively working together to a) agree a mutually beneficial licence agreement and b) for the Scarlets to cease any litigation in respect of the WRU?
To me these points are as important as Y11 buying Cardiff because if we can't agree terms of a licence agreement then our future still isn't safe and the WRU still have this March court date hanging over them. |
A and B are intrinsically linked and it’s a yes to A. |
To be clear Wasp are you saying your understanding is we've been proactively working together with the union to agree the terms of the licence agreement? |
Unless I've missed something (quite feasible given the almost daily rollercoaster that is Welsh rugby) my latest understanding was the Regions are still awaiting for a revision to the terms for the licences, as it stands I'm led to believe that no Region has applied for a licence due to the unworkable requests (full control of players, management etc) of the WRU

Think things will be moving at a pace at last Phil. The arbitration which is due gives the Scarlets a good opportunity to negotiate a favourable debt situation & the universal dislike of the licence terms should see a sensible solution emerge.

Agreed, the WRU want this three teams done fast and I suspect they will clear the Scarlets debt owed to them and cede on the full control of rugby demands.

My biggest concern with any agreement with the WRU is that any agreement that sees the WRU with having more control (than they currently have) will result in the regions/licenses not being able to join any form of Anglo English/Welsh league in the future as the Premiership doesn’t like union involvement as that affects the way the league is run. The Premiership is run separately to the RFU which allows it to negotiate its own sponsorship and TV rights and to keep all the money within the teams competing in the league, unlike the current predicament we find ourselves in, where the unions run the URC and take the money and then pass that on to the regions (not always in full).

I admire your confidence in the WRU being able to find a resolution at all, let alone "at a pace"
I truly hope you're right, my fear however is that the current state of limbo will still be cast upon us come the conclusion of the 6N

I know there is a pending court date in 2-3 weeks, and that licences weren't agreed as of last week. Nothing more tbh
Gar and Chris know more about this
