Last year they gave lots of free tickets out after people had paid good money for tickets!!
That is why I believe people were waiting for freebies this year - which didn't happen!! |

True, people have long memories. There were also people down Llywnhendy shops (the Avenue to the natives) yesterday who had no idea it was going on until they heard the music, they can't even tap into the local community. I've said before it's a good thing they're diversifying, but I don't think they do any market research and I certainly don't think they know what attracts a crowd re: concerts. I hope this bike thing next week gets a good crowd in, has it been advertised anywhere apart from the website and a couple of signs by the roundabout? I'm taking the kids anyway. The PDC darts was a huge success so they can get it right!

Still limited though? Especially when nobody around my area knew it was on, and it's where the stadium is located! None of my family/mates inc me listen to those stations at all (because they're average at best imo), i'd probably say their listening figures are pretty poor. The darts sold out with minimal promotion as Llanelli loves the sport and word of mouth got round very quickly, established acts than can attract a minimum of 3-4000 will have a large core following who would do the same "self promotion" if you will, this event as far as I know didn't utilise any media outside the Llanelli Stir/local radio. As a debating point and using the exact same advertising yesterday, would it have been a bigger crowd if they'd booked 2 Welsh bands of biggish commerical stature like Feeder and SFA to be on the same bill? Or even some dj's considering Escape in the Park isn't on this year. Pay peanuts and you get glorified karaoke singers like yesterday's bill, my personal taste doesn't come into it, I just want these things to attract good crowds, make a profit and put the stadium on the map for bigger bands.

The ENJOY festavel was done differently this year. First of all it was aimed at a younger audience (hence why it was on so early) and the bands were choosen and paid for by the radio station. This meant that our break eaven was very low. |

my issue is, why was it organised on the same day as a free Olympic Torch party at Singleton Park, that had 5k+ visitors.

That explains the lack of general advertising then, and i'd assume the average age of the station's listener is not a young one (hence the attempt to reach that audience), though the stadium did next to nothing to help pull punters in. Fair play to them for trying and I hope they have another crack at it (but aim at an older audience), but when not even the locals by the stadium knew about it then they've got to start asking who messed this one up! Out of interest does anyone here listen to Scarlet FM or Radio Carms?

I only listen to specific shows. None on those radio stations as its not my taste at all.
It would have been cheaper to have gruff rhys, feeder, etc and more than probably would have sold more tickets. Add Howard marks as a compare and you got it made!! There are MANY acts that would have been far more popular and far cheaper than the Burke. Acts from a talent show, and a winner of a karaeoke show ainf going to pull much in. |

Exactly, plenty of Welsh artists that could attract punters from across South Wales if a few of them are on the same bill, Mike Peters with or without The Alarm/GLC/Gruff/SFA/Lethargy/Killing For Company etc etc, have an afternoon full of local bands (who'll play for free let's face it) before the main clump later on. A reformed Datblygu and Anhrefn would be nice

My Son & Daughter didn't go this year because of the artists playing there. They told me it wasn't as good a line up as last year. Shame that.

It's trying to attract a whole range of acts that's tricky. I can see where you're coming from but do you think many teenagers and youngsters are interested in the acts you mentioned? There could be a day of the acts mentioned on here and they'd be asking why are there has beens in the line up.
