So who are the greatest female lyricists of all time?

Kate Bush and Patti Smith (head and shoulders above most artists male or female)
Joni Mitchell
Chrissie Hynde
Grace Slick ("White Rabbit", oh yeah manYing Yang)
Jayne County
Skin (Skunk Anansie)
Can't recall if Lesley Rankine wrote lyrics, Silverfish were a fine band though, Girlschool wrote some crackers as well, and Babes In Toyland.

Showing my age really, but Curved Air, Renaissance and Pentangle had amazing female singers as well.

I don't know if this is the sexism talking, but I can't think of one Dead

Definitely not one to the standard of Dylan or Oberst anyway.

That's why I asked. While there are good female songwriters, I don' think a female would make my top 30 lyricists list.

Is that bad of me?

We had a similar debate recently regarding female standup comedians, I can't think of one that I even find funny. I don't even need to ask myself if it's bad of me, I'm pretty sure it is.
