A mixed performance from the Drovers , against the win less Whites . I would love to see Ellis Mee start at 15 against Zebre a week tomorrow , a try tonight, one searing break , does all the basics well and has the X Factor . Gabe Hawley solid in all games at scrum time , and always a willing carrier . The second rows Ed Scragg excellent in lineouts , and worked hard , Morgan Jones quiet game, crossed for a try and a yellow card Great to see 17 year old Dom Kossuth make his senior debut, off the bench and a couple of trademark runs ..

Thought Mee was dynamic and excellent tonight and had a massive boot. Reminds me of Sanjay a bit. Feel like he needs a bit more conditioning and upper body strength and then just experience really.
Kossuth was a bullock when he came on. Without trying to sound too negative, thought the game showed why Morgan is down the pecking order⦠heās got some work ons with his handling and just reading moments of the game. Speed of thought and accuracy of decisions plus develop his hands.

I was at the game tonight. Given that Scragg has had a season at the Drovers, it's not surprising that he looks more part of the team than Morgan Jones. But I thought after the final last season ( when he was magnificent) that he should have been given a chance in the Scarlets last few games. He seems to have come on alot in the past 12 months. Inspite of a couple of line out throws going over him tonight, he's the best WQ lineout catcher I've seen for a long time. And his workrate is higher than it used to be. The Drovers starting 15 had lots of changes from last season and perhaps that was the reason they looked disjointed ( and going down to 13 didn't help although they held the Jacks out whilst at 13 and Mee's searing break was whilst still down to 14). Mee really has to get minutes in a Scarlet shirt- I suspect he'll be a much better player than either Rogers or particularly Nicholas. He just needs experience. The Drovers is a good place for the youngsters. Euros is a really good coach of young players and an excellent coach of an experienced team. I'll leave that thought there.

Thanks for that excellent assessment John, and thanks to those above, much appreciated, as didn't see game. It will be intresting to see second row developments. Not seen much of Scragg, and Morgan Jones had limited opportunities off the bench last year. If Craig goes( & I obviously hope he doesn't), it will be intresting to see who will provide back up, if we don't sign another second row..? ATM, it appears Price is in pole position, and has at least plenty if energy in his cameos so far this season. Any thoughts.? Euros is an excellent experienced coach, you are right John

Last night Scragg looked a better player than Jones. This is something of a change from the previous status quo going back to Wales U20 where Jones and Price were the first choice and Scragg the back up. Where Scragg is compared to Price is anyone's guess. But there's another issue. Scragg is a #5- Craig a #4. It's a #4 that we're after. And Jones is a #4?

Having played second row i dont really think 4 or 5 is a massive issue , the trend now is more loosehead and tighthead lock with the tighthead lock able to give more in the scrums and is generally the bigger lump is on the behind the tighthead
i havent seen much of Scragg and dont know what he would offer to the Scarlets.

Thank you to John for his comprehensive response. It is good that fringe and development players are getting regular game time. I have been enjoying watching the new league on a Thursday evening- the Drovers do seem to have a regular slot! The standard looks decent and I think will only improve and we hopefully now have a decent pathway to regional rugby.

Evan Sheldon at 8 showed glimpses of promise before his yellow card on the brink of half time. He has the build and skill to go further and the Scarlets do not have much backup at 8 at the moment. Apparently he was a second row when he was with our U18s and is now at Cardiff Met college. Perhaps he is worth keeping an eye on with regard to the future.

The Drovers back row dominated their Quins opponents on saturday. That's not a particularly newsworthy event as it's happened to many opponents in the past few years but for a back row where 2 members (Carwyn and Ben Williams) have aspirations of a return to regional level, it was not a good afternoon.

Not a bad game. Quins put in a decent account of themselves with a few Scarlets boys in.
Dripvers a bit too good - 22-27 |
