Consortium offer to buy Cardiff from the WRU

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/hollywood-producers-bid-buy-cardiff-32666339

Imaginative idea to have a reality tv program about the club Wink

Well that will stir the pot up a bit.

Are we now going to see the breaking of the salary caps and changes to the number of NWQ players to get the best squads for each region ? Whilst sad for a number of home grown players, the only source in the short term are the overseas players.

Facing off to som serious business owners in the regions the WRU will need to up their own game

As someone who knows a bit about this kind of thing... I wouldn't hold my breath for a scripted series about Cardiff just yet. A doc is far more realistic and manageable.

Also, NO WAY the WRU are going to enforce any restrictions on outside investment if they are going to sell their beloved Cardiff to Hollywood producers... they will be beside themselves with dollar signs in the eyes.

The overriding question is still why? Yes they said it was a 10 year vision but that is an awful amount of money (£100m +) to get to an unknown point 10 years down the line that is difficult to predict.

Knew there’d be negatives over this. If they invested in the scarlets people would think it’s great. 😂

At the very least, it would demonstrate better taste Wink

On a serious note, I hope it is a more robust proposition than the Helford.

I'm not negative about the investment personally, but I know TV production.

I think people need to question why they've made their interest public.

Either they are certs for the takeover and are doing early Comms and engagement or they feel they need to go on the front foot and get people excited by the TV show opportunity to give them an advantage in any bidding process. This need might arise because they feel they currently don't have the best hand.

The named consortium don't seem to me to have massive funding behind them. Rhino is not a major company and film/TV producers of this ilk might have millions but not necessarily tens of millions.

The talk of a TV show is just bait. I honestly believe it will never reach the screen as a scripted show. At best, it'll languish in development and they'll realise there is no story.

And correct, producers aren't production companies. Ryan Reynolds has ACTUAL millions to invest in Wrexham. These guys will likely be on six figure salaries and that's it.

You seem continually perplexed by the notion of sporting rivalry.

Regarding their finances tho, Reynolds may be worth millions but Wrexham still make a loss.

The issue world rugby has to deal with is managing the investment into rugby sides and stop it becoming like the financial bubble that is English Premiership football with high fees for players, ticket prices even TV rights and still clubs make massive losses.

Already the clubs are run by multi millionaires and soon they will be outpriced by businesses and individuals with deeper pockets.

Whilst it sounds exciting to have high class, fully professional, media savvy Welsh rugby  teams with well paid stars performing on the world stage to packed stadiums. However, there does seem something unsettling about the future
