To acquire that status, you have to have played for another country at either full international or A-level.

So, working on the basis that he could yet become eligible for Wales on residency grounds, Stuart-Smith is not classed non-Welsh."

The article is a few years old so I don't know if the point made above is still valid.

stuart smith is no longer at the club. and yes manu, hayter and eusless are NWQ

Isn’t this 6 NWQ players just a gentlemen’s agreement though with the WRU?  There’s not much they can do if any of the regions signed loads as it’s illegal.  Can you imagine going for a job interview in England only to be told “Yes, you would have had it, thing is though, we already have 6 Welsh here already.”

Maybe it’s best not to rock the boat though!!

its always amazed me that these rules exist in a professional game which is the players livelihoods.

Wouldnt it be a simple employment tribunal case for restriction of trade or against employment laws???

However Manu has not represented a country and could qualify to play for Wales in the forthcoming years, therefore meaning he is no longer NWQ!
History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.

He has represented the New Zealand Maori though so this may be what rules him out of Welsh qualification??

They might be considered as a sort of New Zealand 'A' - I've not ever heard of a player playing for the Maoris and then playing for another country have you??

Wouldnt they be classed in the same way as the Pacific Islands team? Pretty sure they dont award caps against them. So our overseas players would be King,Macleod,Douglas and Shwalker, Manu,Eustace,Hayter could in effect not be classed as non Welsh Qualified as they could qualify on residency grounds-hey wont I know.
So there will be space for another 3 NWQ and possibly other uncapped overseas players if Im not mistaken?

Looks like they are treated as an 'A' team as they compete in the Churchill Cup in which case they would not be able to represent another nation apart from New Zealand.

(Although they do say not to believe all you read on Wikipedia!!)
