I thought the general consensus was that the Scarlets need to sign a WQ tighthead prop because the foreign ones they sign rarely turn out to be any good. Is there a better one available, or is this one of those occasions where the academy, or llanelli RFC have someone better who is being scandalously overlooked by the corrupt jobs-for-the-boys crowd?

RT played well apart from the scrum, winning a penalty and getting over the gainline almost everytime! |

RT wasn't brilliant but it was Yapp who was the main problem for Wales as the ref pointed out in the second half!

Have a look around the UK. Good props are more difficult to come by than players in any other position. RT is by no means the finished article. But he's young, and in the right environment his scrummaging will improve. And that was an Italian pack today, who don't do going backwards in the scrum.
He is generally v.good around the park and will add something to the sort of game that we want to play. For a prop he has fast hands and feet. As has already been posted previously, the fact that he's Welsh increases what he can demand in wages. But in the absence of anything better he is a good signing, albeit in an ideal world we would want him for less. Lets not start slaughtering the guy before he puts on the shirt.

They dont have to be around for much longer, one season would do. If Meeuws has to retire, he would be more the useful as an assistant forwards coach for a season. Edited by TheMightyCD - 14 March 2009 at 8:53pm |

Can anyone explain to me if Yapp was supposed to be the bigger problem, why did Gatland keep him on for the whole game but take Rhys Thomas off?

Perhaps because it'll be Yapp that is on the bench v Ireland next week. Maybe he wanted to give him the gametime.
Yapp has to improve. We've got 2 loose-heads that would have given a better account of themselves in my opinion.
All this training to become a tight head could be affecting Yapp's play on the loose.
