Things going on at Dragons with them up for sale and Lyn the lip "off sick" and missing the huge win v Gloucester. May be opportunity for Nigel Davies as Director of rugby even? He must want regional rugby at least and won't get that at Ebbw Vale.

If Nige has any sense he wouldn't go anywhere near them.

How many internationals of note have they produced? 5 max?
Haven't finished in the top 6 of the league for years.. Yet still on the same funding as the other regions. Really annoys me. |

Yes it seems they are having problems. They have a decent crop of young players coming through at the moment - Hewitt, Amos, Tyler, Dixon, Dee, Ollie Griffiths & Keddie all have potential.

It could be important for the Scarlets that the Dragons make a decent fist of things. If the WRU and PRW ever decide that Moffett is right and Wales can really only support 3 professional regions if they are to compete with other European sides, there's a risk that ultimately there'll be 2 in the South and 1 in the North. The easiest way to do that might involve amalgamating the Blues and Dragons regions, and the Ospreys and Scarlets regions. Even a "club-based" solution like Scotland's would be based in the largest rugby supporting conurbations - Cardiff, Swansea and Newport. We should be careful what we wish for.

I have a soft spot for the Dragons in a way that I could never have for the Ospreys or Blues. At the moment it may just be sympathy for the underdog. Long may it last by losing to us.

might be completely wrong but thought all four regions are signatories and shareholders of the RCC. so the WRU nor PRW can amalgamate any of the regions. however if a rich benefactor can convince godfrey/hazel and WRU to move the Dragons franchise elsewhere, then I think that proposal would be considered.

I want all the welsh regions to do well and scarlets to takeover Europe...But Dragons ,well they've been infighting from the start. They just cant seem to make that leap forward. Im not sure why theyre seen as underdogs, its a very well populated area, well located , a massive hotbed of rugby, their feeder clubs are a mass of the old 1st class clubs from Newport to ebbw to newbridge, pooler, cross keys, Caerphilly , abertillery etc etc etc.....they get the same funding yet theyre pretty hapless |

Nigel would be a good man to continue the development of their exciting young backs. Gloucester have hardly been pulling up trees since they replaced him. I think it would have been good to have been able to judge his impact if he had had a chance to have a full season with the many recruits he brought in.

I think Dragons could do a lot worse than Nigel Davies.
He would certainly persuade them to play heads up rugby and could be seen as ideal to develop the likes of Dixon / Morgan / Hewitt etc. Personally don't think Dragons are in a place where they can be too picky on who comes in. |
