The rugby paper reporting we are on the verge of signing this guy. Australia 7’s and NSW starting No. 8 last season.

Same height and two kilos lighter than John Barclay. A centimetre taller and 6 kgs lighter than Josh Mac. He's that type of number 8.

Not the 8 I was hoping for. Would like a big ball carrying 8.

We are not a good wet weather team, and last year the team really began to play well on dry fast grounds. The game seems to be moving to speed over size, and I don't think Pivac will want an 8 like a Ben Morgan type.

Pretty underwhelmed really, Australia has been struggling to find a good 8 for a few years now. This looks like a project player rather than the quality and experience we are looking to replace.
He's played 8 for Waratahs because they had a couple of injuries in that position too IIRC. And they've been sh$t. Taufua is a much, much better player.

How can any of you judge a player you've probably never seen play?

I don't know if we are about to sign this guy or not, but FWIW from the clips he's a decent tackler, works hard and is a line-out option. He's not a big banger, and didn't secure many turnovers in the clips shown. He'd seem to be quite a bit of a downgrade from the excellent Barclay... but he's young and may well improve/have more miles still to run on the clock.
As always, I'll wait and see.

Played most of his career at 6, - we need genuine #8 and a genuine lock, a pack of backrowers was nearly our downfall yesterday

Do you remember the 'Sign of the Beast' 666 back row of a few seasons ago?

I have. If he is Barclay's replacement, we've been hard done by. He's a Beirne, a punt that might come good or even great, but he's not going to go straight into our 23, and that's what we need, as demostrated by yesterday's game.
