A few interesting snippets of news flying around this week...
Ah You Leaves Ulster for Falcons Newcastle have signed prop Rodney Ah You from Ulster, formerly of Connacht, with immediate effect. Rapid Rise of Global Rugby The Asia Pacific club rugby championship has been rebranded Global Rapid Rugby and, with World Rugby's blessing, will trial variations in the laws, such as 70 minute games with increased on-field playing times (eg - by not allowing kicks to touch from inside the 22) in an attempt to fit games into 90-minute TV packages. RFU Boss Resigns Steve Brown, chief exec of England Rugby, has resigned just 15 months into his reign. He'd been with the RFU since 2011, including organising the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but his departure coincides with big post-RWC losses and mass redundancies at the RFU just 10 months before RWC19. Steve Tandy named Defence Coach at the Waratahs Former Ospreys chief exec, Andrew Hore, has given his former head coach a permanent role at the 'Tahs in New South Wales, supporting former NZ centre Darryl Gibson. Wasps Debt Doubles The controlling company of Wasps and the Ricoh Arena have reported a doubling of their pre-tax loss to £9.7m - much of the increase has come from one-off costs, such as the legal bill to challenge the sale of the stadium in Coventry. Tigers Hotel Go-ahead Leicester Tigers have had permission to develop the site adjacent to their Welford Road ground as a hotel and car park complex. Work will begin next summer. Scots Players Union Tim Swinson is setting up Rugby Players Scotland to represent his colleagues in bonus and disciplinary matters, among other things - SRU would rather they didn't, it appears. "We are the last Tier One nation not to have an association," Swinson said. "We feel the players have not had their views voiced as well as they could have been." IRFU Bank Land Cash If things couldn't get better for Ireland this week, the IRFU have sold 92 acres of land in west Dublin, purchased around 1995, for €27m. Part of the proceeds will go to further developing club and playing facilities in Ireland. |

In terms of raising development income I just wish the Scarlets had incorporated a Hotel complex into the ground design as this would be great for off field revenue.
